Yes because it's unlikely he or any other actor would have become a producer and obtained so much creative control over the character and scripts like Craig has, and that is ultimately the problem right now.

Eon desperately needs to recruit a younger lesser-known actor who will just do the job of portraying the role and that's it. Even Sean Connery never had any creative control, but Craig somehow manipulated Barbara Broccoli into giving that to him.

Would have been brilliant. Especially if I was making the Bond movies I wanted to make, set back in the proper timeline.

No. He'd have been a damn good Bond, he's a very good actor and quite charismatic.

But he wouldn't have been as good as Craig, who is also a good actor and as charismatic as hell, and sexier and butcher than Owen. And much more physically imposing, which actually matters. Craig is someone you can see emerging intact from a punch-out in an 3rd world slum, and Owen is not.

His role as the 'Professor' in the Bourne Identity was a good Bond audition
