yes or no - would Clive Owen have been a better Bond ?

yes

reply

Yes because it's unlikely he or any other actor would have become a producer and obtained so much creative control over the character and scripts like Craig has, and that is ultimately the problem right now.

Eon desperately needs to recruit a younger lesser-known actor who will just do the job of portraying the role and that's it. Even Sean Connery never had any creative control, but Craig somehow manipulated Barbara Broccoli into giving that to him.

reply

I think he would've been great, but I'm not sure he would have been better.

reply

"great" > Craig's portrayal

reply

See, I'd rank 'em Connery (1), Dalton (2), Craig (3), Brosnan (4), Moore (5), Lazenby (6). And the only Bond I didn't really like as a performance was Lazenby. I can even appreciate Moore's too-goofy approach.

I think Craig is a bit too serious and blunt at times, but the performance is good, and his approach is laudable.

reply

Would have been brilliant. Especially if I was making the Bond movies I wanted to make, set back in the proper timeline.

reply

Adequate. But even adequate is better than craggy faced Craig.

reply

Yes...
Craig seems too angry all the time, i like him okay but Clive Owen has a nice shit eating grin and an inner mellow that would have been great for Bond

reply

Possibly, if he took the right approach to the character. Craig is my least favorite Bond.

reply

No. He'd have been a damn good Bond, he's a very good actor and quite charismatic.

But he wouldn't have been as good as Craig, who is also a good actor and as charismatic as hell, and sexier and butcher than Owen. And much more physically imposing, which actually matters. Craig is someone you can see emerging intact from a punch-out in an 3rd world slum, and Owen is not.

reply

He'd been fine.

reply

His role as the 'Professor' in the Bourne Identity was a good Bond audition
