What the hell did Chaz and Roger mean when they were talking about the "lovers" song and his sudden hemorrhage--"if the song was shorter and I had left, I'd be dead." Huh?? Does that mean the length of the song prolonged his tome left or what?

They were leaving the hospital, but then the song started playing. They decided to stay and listen.
Then the artery in his neck blew out. If he had been outside the hospital, he would've been dead there and then. But because they were in a hospital with doctors - he was saved.
So that's why Leonard Cohen's I'm Your Man kept Ebert alive at that time.
