Much more suited title I think.

Or just "Thumbs Up". Can't forget about the homie Gene Siskel.

right right...i was including Gene Siskel...i'm sure he's in it quite a bit.

I don't know... I think if the movie stinks, it should be re-titled to:

"I hated this movie. Hated hated hated hated hated this movie. Hated it. Hated every simpering stupid vacant audience-insulting moment of it. Hated the sensibility that thought anyone would like it. Hated the implied insult to the audience by its belief that anyone would be entertained by it."

It would be like bliss to have another critic throw that in his face (RIP).

I think "Life itself" is the name of his memoir. I do agree the name of the film should be changed to "Thumbs up"

reply

I agree, that would be a nice tribute :)

My high school was privileged to have this movie screened for us and have a Q & A with Steve James after we watched, and the question of "Why is it not called Two Thumbs Up?" came up. The answer was simple, and quite obvious after we viewed the film. The film is based off of Rogers memoir "Life Itself" and the film is told in the order of his memoir with cuts to him in the hospital with friends, and interviews with James till he passed. The film is not focused enough on him and Gene to title it "Two Thumbs Up", its focused on his entire life, in memory of him, not the show he was once on.

that makes sense. thx.

Thanks for being the guy on IMDb who actually gives real information.

I wonder how many reviewers will use "Two Thumbs Up" as the title for their review on this film...

When it came to be being trustworthy/reliable, he definitely had "two thumbs up" something.

After watching this powerful documentary, and although I agree that either "Thumbs Up" or "Two Thumbs Up" would've been perfectly suitable titles for a documentary about RE, this is so much more than a documentary regarding Roger's life work; it's about his struggles and connections to some of the people his life touched. It's so much more than film reviewing, it's about a real life, good times, bad times, terrible times and consequences.

10 out of 10 for me. Or as Roger would've put it: ****/****.

The movie should have the same name as the memoir it's based upon... and the memoir is called "Life Itself"... I assume it's a title that Roger chose, so he wanted it that way.

I have to say, I get pretty tired of the whole "thumbs up" or "thumbs down" thing, but Roger's reviews and this film have so much more to offer.
