I've seen only two random episodes of this and in both, there's a curly haired kid with glasses who was apparently his assistant on the show he was from. Why does he keep hanging around David even though his show is over? I mean, his job was to assist during the time his sitcom was on the air, not in real life. I don't get it.

In the first episode, David couldn't handle being off the show and running the house, so they "kept" Kevin bc he was good at helping David. I guess the underlying joke is supposed to be that the father has to learn how to be a real dad instead of his tv character.
Disclaimer: I watched the first few episodes, but it didn't get funnier, so I gave up. It was nice seeing "Mr. Cooper" and the actress from Sister Act, but the show is is painful to watch.
"Bob, I recall you raise either chinchillas or children. Which is it?"
It seems every show nowadays has to have a gay character in it...sad to say !!!
