LVT's useage of animal killing and mutilations

In every one of LVT's movies that I've seen (the Depression Trilogy by far), one element he uses to draw parallels to the human emotions being portrayed is the visceral and shock of interspersing cuts of animals being killed or tortured. It works. It is gut wrenching. And in a few seconds he has me squeaming.

I can handle all of the violence and brutality, the sexuality, all of it. But those cuts which include animals just sicken me. I feel traumatized and scarred by that cow killing in the slaughter house. (Among other images he's used).

That being said, I am still a fan of his work because he's an effective Director. He knows his material and he's brilliant at how he conveys it. If nothing else, he's helping me to eat healthier by putting me off meat.
