3.8 stars? With these actors?

3.8 average equals a really really bad movie. But with these proven actors, is that even possible? Surely it cannot be that bad?

It got off a really bad score on its first release date. I think it was 4.4. And since people tend to lower the scores that are already low, without even trying to understand or appreciate the movie for what it is, it fell down to an awful 3.8. Though the movie is not that bad. It should have been around 5.8-6.3 I think. The trailer may have also caused a misleading; because it is not a thriller it is mainly a drama. The set design is also very theatrical-designed. So it looks like a poor movie. As a die hard Carrie-Anne fan, I don't think it deserves 3.8 by any means.
See it for yourself without considering IMDb score.

or in other words: you liked it, so everybody should. you can not in your right mind argue that this is an objectively good movie. the script is a disaster and the overacting is anbearable. 3.8 is far for the sound, cuts and camera work, but that's about it. it is ok to like it, but argueing that people just don't get it is beyond stupid.

[Gave it 7/10 as i liked it, not a brilliant movie but a strong original plotline and good cinematography]

There are several verified psychologically accepted phenomena that agrees with his statement - like path dependency, or social desirability bias; when the subject aims to please current norms that are considered positive or accepted (vice versa, reject those that are considered negative or outside the normal).

If you watch Moss she does not overact consistantly, that makes me believe it's intentional.
Heather Graham is supposed to protray a person that acts as if she is being filmed in a studio - so that in my book is clearly not overacting.
Kevin Dillon alwas looks like he is overacting, and partly I can agree but that wasn't disturbing but rather suitable for this part.
Joe Mantegna clearly is an actor that naturally acts that way - watch anything he does.
I see this as signs that it was a choice in a movie that is extremely heavy on character studies to find actors that take alot of space in 3 of the roles and then have a depressed Moss on the side.

Regarding the votes I'm unsure, there has been signs of voterigging going on and I hope IMDB are working against it (and that these last years are not the beginning of the end) as i hope they'll continue to exist but seing the rates Fast & Furious 6&7 pulled off and some other large movies it looks bad.

[EDIT] Looked up the proper term in english - Social desirability bias.

Ignorance is only a bliss if you haven't reached awareness.
My imdb posts are getting altered.

say without bias, me and another fan think it's not that bad, we think Saffron character is hard to play, and she did great job. Heather Graham did good job too.

Then give it a high rating. All movies end up with the ratings they deserve. Like most viewers, I was disappointed. The stellar cast and rich textures just weren't enough to save this poor script.

I agree with you!I gave it an 8!

reply

bcoz its a REMAKE.

reply

It's not that bad, it's a decent movie. I didn't know it was a remake until after I saw it, now I'm planning on watching the original.

3.8 is way underrated. The fine cinematography and acting performances warrant at least a 6 or a 7, not to mention that Heather Graham is as pretty and sexy as she's ever been on film.

reply

It really is that bad.
Not so much because of the acting, but because of the directing etc.

This movie is really bad.

It has some good production values, the interpretations aren't bad, but the script is utter ridiculous.
Apart of being nonsensical and non-logical, it's also brainless. I've never seen anything so pointless.

Still I watched it till the end because I expected something to happen, and well... nothing really happens. One and a half hour completely lost in some dramatic flick between two women, a man and an orgy of food.

It is a fantastic movie except for the story. The story is written like a comedy but it is a very depressing movie in many ways.
