Did you think Tony was a rapist at first?

In the beginning of the movie I was bracing for Tony to rape her? He just seemed creepy. Anyone else feel the same way?

Do you think the OP of this thread is a troll?

He did seem a little creepy and odd. Then I realized that he was just one of those impossibly nice and perfect men that they have in movies to appeal to women.

Enjoy the movie overall. Especially the performances....

In the book, which is not Hollywoodized, Tony is more revolting and creepy.

He is proud of his erections while around her and presses it against her while at the beach.

Yes and in the book when Tony took Eilis' virginity with his over sized dick he was hurting her a lot but that didn't put him off for a second the beast. But they didn't have the balls to put that exact scene the way it was into the film.

And also Tony pressured Eilis into marrying him before she went back to Ireland because he was a selfish jerk who put his desires ahead of Eilis' best interests.

The film could have been a lot more interesting if they hadn't sanitized it and made it so bland.

The Players of The Game are the scum of the earth.

Gross.

Except in real life women push men like that away like they have the plague.

I thought the same thing... I think it was in the way he walked over to her at the dance. He had a vibe like, don't go home with this guy, but then he ended up being a great guy.

Yes...Its seems men in movies who are charming usually turn out to be creeps. It's sad really. And it's what I liked most about this movie.

I felt the same way at first, but the 50's were a different time. Showing up unexpectedly was romantic back then but TODAY Tony would be considered a stalker. Much simpler times.

Sad sign of the times, this post is.

He had me at "Hello." Sweet, endearing, kind.

Yes, I found it very tricky to warm up to him. He felt very creepy and stalker like at first. Right when I started to warm up to him he traps her with marriage before her trip home and I was back to not liking him.

I got the creep factor from him through and through. Maybe it was just the actor.
