Oh shut up. Mexicans aren’t allowed to see themselves represented in films? Have you noticed that the world isn’t all White? Go watch reruns of the Brady Bunch or something. Little Maria or Jose isn’t always gonna relate to little Peggy Sue. You can love your culture and appreciate others. You damn bigot.

reply

Dude, do the words "huge untapped market" mean anything to you?

reply

Not to an uneducated racist POS like him it doesn't.

reply

No one made you watch the movie.

Thus the word "Freedom".

reply

I don't think he has watched the movie.

reply

Yeah, just the commercials alone were a turn-off for me. Disney used to cater to everyone, not just one group over another. There was nothing about this film that would appeal to anyone outside of Latin America, unless you were curious about their Day of the Dead traditions.

reply

Don't be silly. The universal popularity of this movie is evidence that your statement that "there was nothing about this film that would appeal to anyone outside of Latin America" is utter nonsense.

reply

Do you know anyone who even remembers the title?

reply

Wonderful film that would appeal to anyone in my opinion. How does this film not cater to everyone?

reply

I think it had universal appeal. I'm an old white guy who enjoys seeing something that does not appear to be a lump of smashed white bread on the screen. I been around the block a few times and know that the same old thing is just a snooze fest.

reply

It made 807 million. It definitely appealed to a lot of people.

reply

"Disney used to cater to everyone, not just one group over another."

He genuinely thinks that putting white leading characters in every single film was "catering to everyone"!

reply

You don't have to "buy into" the beliefs and traditions of a culture different from your own to enjoy movies inpired by them. The idea that this movie is "trying to please Mexicans" is ridiculous. How sadly narrow your mind and life are if that's how you think and feel.

reply

Did you miss that Disney made two movies about Latin America already in the 1940s?
So why is it so bad if Pixar made a movie about Mexico in 2017?
How is "Coco" propaganda in any way?

reply

I think ronnie feels it is propaganda as grandma Coco does not run around in klan robes.

reply

After a bit of thinking about this, I believe that threads like this happen because of prejudices.
Some people think that Latin Americans should only be portrayed in a negative way.
And if you're prejudiced, you will see movies like "Coco" and "Encanto" as propaganda pieces.
It is not like those people want to see Latin Americans portrayed as mostly good or at least redeemable.
There are similar prejudices here in Sweden against Middle Easterners, especially Muslims.
It is what happens when two different cultures collide, I'm afraid.
But I can sometimes see prejudices against Latin Americans over here as well, but not as often.
However, that is probably just because we've got relatively few immigrants from Latin America.
So there's no real reason for even the most prejudiced people to see them as that much of a problem...

Desperado made $58 million WW on a $7 million budget. Not bad for an r rated movie about Mexicans. But let me guess, it wasn't SJW back then, but if we released the exact same movie today, no alterations, it would be shoving propaganda down your throat.
