Choked me up.

Really touching movie. If you've ever lost a grandparent this will hit you in the feels.

Indeed...a great, great film.

Loved it, took my little one to the cinema and really got choked up at the end

The scene where Miguel sang to Coco was really sad because I also lost my grandma to Alzheimer's. Very well made movie, one of the best Disney films since Frozen.

Indeed, that is what like with my grandmother as well.
I had to sing psalms to her to calm her down during the last year of her life.
And in the last few days before she passed away, it suddenly was possible to have conversations with her again.
It is clear that whoever wrote that scene had experienced seeing a family member with Alzheimer's.

I lost both paternal grandparents, only a few years ago.

On the whole I found Coco to be an okay experience. I didn't love it, but it could have been a lot worse. Strangely though, there was also one particular scene in the movie that almost did bring me to tears. It was when that character in the afterlife dimension disappeared just after Hector sang the song for him in front of Miguel. Hector then explained to Miguel how they finally disappear never to be seen again once they have been completely forgotten in the living world. Even typing this I'm feeling tearful thinking about it. It's just surprising how sometimes a movie you thought was okay can feature one little thing that really moves you.

This is like the inverse of UP where the beginning of that movie is emotionally destructive already (specifically the 4-minute montage sequence), and in Coco, I dare anyone to not cry or at least tear up when the final 10 minutes play.

reply

Me too at the end.
