What old English actor did the dad remind me of?

It's driving me crazy. I can picture him: he has bug out eyes, bushy eyebrows, an underbite and pursed his lips. Even his croaky manner of speaking was similar, with an English accent of course. I want to say he was in a B&W David Lean film, or at least something of that caliber. Any help? It's not Marty Feldman, this one was middle-aged looking in the 1940s or 50s.

Are you possibly thinking of Tony Hancock?

I don't know about English actor, but he reminded my husband and me of Mr. Roper from "Three's Company", Norman Fell.

Mr. Patel reminded me of the late Brit actor Robert Morley. He died in 1992.

He also looked like the late Brit musician, jazz singer George Melly.

Happened to be watching Ben-Hur (1959) again and realized I was thinking of Hugh Griffith, in fact a Welshman, so apologies may be due, though not sure to whom. It's so hard to keep track these days.
