I'm sure this is an excellent movie, but to me, it sounds a lot like Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's 2007 comedy The Game Plan. Aside for a few different plot details, the stories are quite similar. What do you think?
You should read my short review TOTALLY AWESOME is the name. I mentioned the Game Plan and The Pacifier those are terrible movies which is precisely why I didn't want to see it, they literally dragged me in it was embarrassing. I have to say I'm happy I saw it, this was much better than any lame disney, "how family works" film. I basically said this in my review so never mind about checking it out. The stories are similar though.
Yes, Alejandro, I did read your excellent review of this film, and while you confirm my suspicion, you also assure me that Instructions Not Included is a far better film, because it grapples with real life in an honest way. Thank you!
Is this really good? I saw the trailer but it didn´t catch me, it feels like a lot of cliches, I´m not sure if it worth it to go to the movies or wait for the blue ray. Some people say this is oscar material!, It´s so hard to believe it.
If I had to find a movie that is similar to this one, it would have to be 'Big Daddy' by Adam Sandler rather than the Game Plan.
Eugenio Derbez had a role in Sandler's movie 'Jack and Jill'
In this movie, there is also a photograph of Adam Sandler and his name is mentioned. This is what leads me to believe that maybe the idea for this movie came from 'Big Daddy'

Actually, what happened is, Eugenio is one of Mexico's most successful comedians, and one day Adam Sandler's gardener was listening to Eugenio's programs and Adam asked him what was so funny, so the gardener told Adam to contact Eugenio. This is why you see the picture of him in the Movie. Not because he got the idea from Big Daddy.
Also a little trivia for you, and there might be Spoilers if you haven't watched it. The girl who plays Julie's wife is actually Eugenio's real life wife. They have been together for quite sometime.
He said that he started working on this movie 12years ago. He said that Life is Beautiful left an impact on him and he wanted to make something similar.
I can't believe that it's been comparing "Big Daddy" with "Instructions not included". The second one is so much better than the first.
(~~Spoiler Alert~~)
In "Big Daddy" Adam Sandler is such a loser that is a terrible example for his bestfriend's child, who appears on his life ( for: how much? one month?).
In "Instructions not included" Valentín is a carefree single playboy man who does his best to care a girl since she was a baby (after her mom abandone her), even risking his own life for give her a dreamed life because he knows she's gonna die in any moment. I don't see any similar at all.
I don't know if it's Oscar material, but its better than Kramer vs. Kramer, big daddy, Game plan and other movie names that people are throwing about and around here. Just because it's in Spanish doesnt mean its a cheap rip off. Its a beautiful movie. See it for what it is, and not to compare. If you compare then, you'll hardly find any original movies nowadays. This movie was refreshing, makes you laugh and makes you cry. I loved it.
