I'm sure this is an excellent movie, but to me, it sounds a lot like Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's 2007 comedy The Game Plan. Aside for a few different plot details, the stories are quite similar. What do you think?

I mentioned the Game Plan and The Pacifier those are terrible movies which is precisely why I didn't want to see it, they literally dragged me in it was embarrassing. I have to say I'm happy I saw it, this was much better than any lame disney, "how family works" film. I basically said this in my review so never mind about checking it out. The stories are similar though.

Actually Derbez's wife is Reneé, who plays Julie´s girlfriend.

In "Big Daddy" Adam Sandler is such a loser that is a terrible example for his bestfriend's child, who appears on his life ( for: how much? one month?).
In "Instructions not included" Valentín is a carefree single playboy man who does his best to care a girl since she was a baby (after her mom abandone her), even risking his own life for give her a dreamed life because he knows she's gonna die in any moment.
I don't see any similar at all.
It's true that these types of plots can get predictable... The absent parent suddenly wants custody, etc.... You can olny go so far with this plot.
But the 'curve ball' in this film was very effective and original....
There is a movie even similar...KRAMER VS. KRAMER. True Kramer is a far better film, but that doesn't the plots were eerily similar.

shareI don't know if it's Oscar material, but its better than Kramer vs. Kramer, big daddy, Game plan and other movie names that people are throwing about and around here. Just because it's in Spanish doesnt mean its a cheap rip off. Its a beautiful movie. See it for what it is, and not to compare. If you compare then, you'll hardly find any original movies nowadays. This movie was refreshing, makes you laugh and makes you cry. I loved it.
