What did you guys think of the mom?

i really didnt like the mom. she abandoned maggie when she was just a baby and vanished for 7 yrs without contact. then out of nowhere, she calls and decides to be a part of her daughter's life again. which was OK, of course. maggie deserves to know her mom, and vice versa. but the mom had to be selfish. now that she has her life "together" (and by together, i mean, she's not a complete wh*re anymore) she wants maggie all to herself, so she takes the dad to court. lol *beep* that bitch. yea, just strip the child from the only life she knows. take her away from the man that's raised her and loved her and protected her before she was even a yr old. i can kind of sympathize with the mom, i guess. all she wanted was to be with her daughter, but her methods pissed me off.

so, what did you guys think about the mom?

reply

totally agree with you here.. she abandoned maggie and now after 7 years she tries to take her away from her dad .. this really pissed me off .. she went too far with the paternity test.

reply

exactly, stupid mistake that doesn't mean she shouldn't exist in her life but yet doesn't give her the rite to take her all to herself.

Think Julie just wanted to have a second chance with Maggie,

reply

A second chance to be in her daughter's life is one thing, but to rip the child from the only parent she's ever known? That's where she lost my sympathy.

reply

I hated the way she was written, it was really manipulative and bipolar. I might go as far as saying that mysoginistic and homophobic.

reply

She was a total bitch. If she really cared one bit about Maggie and wanted to be a part of her life she would have moved to L.A and got a job there so she could be a bigger part of her life and not taken her away from her father.. I mean what kind of monster saddles an unsuspecting stranger with her baby uprooting his entire life when she was not even sure that it was his. Then she comes back and wants to take custody away from him after he has already done all the hard work and made all the sacrifices and then announces that the child is not his so she can take her dying child away from the only parent that she ever knew. She was a completely selfish bitch.

She comes across as in the most irresponsible person I have heard of. She has a lot of anonymous sex but yet does not use birth control. She was a aerobics instructor at a hotel and was fired for having sex in one of the hotel rooms. She thinks Valentín could be the father and dumps the child with him. The way she does it as I have to pay the taxi and I will be back in a second and takes off.

reply

I hated her too. I'm actually glad that people hate her also. I'm not sure if we were suppose to feel sorry for her, but I didn't. What kind of confuses me is that when she was saying goodbye to Maggie and then she told the truth about the letters. It did seem like she was ok with Maggie being with Valentin, but then she takes him to court to get custody of Maggie. It felt like that came out of no where. Made me think what the hell, why you caring now? When you should've cared enough to stay in her life. I can really go on and on about why I don't like Julie, but I don't wanna annoy people with my complaining.

reply

I agree, complete self absorbed. Willing to uproot her child from the only parent she ever knew just to be with her. I could understand not moving to LA because there are no lawyers or big law firms there.

reply

I don't think the audience was supposed to feel sympathy for her but I was surprised that they didn't completely paint her as a monster. She was evil. I don't think they went hard enough on her but I've noticed in Spanish speaking films that they portray things differently. Kind of like how people don't like the ending and wanted it to be more emotional. They portray things more lighthearted?
