Was it just me or was the lead actress terrible?

Good LORD that woman was chewing the scenery - looking about quizzically and crying hysterically were pretty much her only reactions to anything. I suppose the director shares some of the blame - "you stubbed your toe! now you spilled your coffee! you should be crying! MORE HYSTERIA!!" I actually had to mute the movie several times because I couldn't take the actress's voice. She also just looked wrong for the part - very, very pretty, but just too made up for most of the situations she was in. IMO she looked more like she belonged on reality tv with the full-make-up and heels. The "musician" ex-husband didn't help.

They're coming to get you, Barbara!

Nope not just you. I'm watching the movie right now for the first time and I find her "acting" and voice very distracting for some reason. Any suspense this film might have, is pretty much wiped out every time she is on the screen.

reply

Completely agree, her accent was off, her acting was painful and she was way too made up, especially in the initial scene with the fedora type hat.

She was disturbingly pretty in a plastic surgery perfect way. I wondered whether her laboured breathing that was so prevalent and distracting in many tense scenes, was due to an overly worked on nose job.

reply

That about sums it up for me too. It felt embarrassing at times with the actress like rehearsing her first lesson "english for beginners" or such, void of any emotion.
Where was the director when this mishap occurred? Lost his way to the studio? I'm sure they all meant well but you can't get it out when it's not in there to begin with.

reply

I'm not very far in at all, but I think the little girl's acting is worse lol

reply

Yeah, the daughter is definitely worse. I think her entire delivery of every single line is based on the little girl in aliens saying "They mostly come at night. Mostly." It's painful to watch. That said, the mother WAS awful as well. In fact, there wasn't a decent actor in the entire movie.

reply

Gorgeous woman. I thought her acting was fine.
