This is the American spirit at work.

Yup,this is how Americans struggle through the hard times. No matter how harsh the elements we will make it through.

Meaning only Americans do this? Other humans don't?

reply

No,but Americans venture across the country to live this way.
Rarely do you hear about Russians giving up life in Moscow to go live in Siberia.

How would you know? Do you watch any Russian TV? I doubt the Russian spirit is aptly reflected upon in American media.

reply

Well, the regulations they have in countries like Russia would make it difficult to live this lifestyle. These Americans actually moved there from other places.Harder than a coffin nail baby.

There are millions of Russians who move and have lived in Siberia for over 200 years (not counting the indigenous peoples who've lived their for thousands of years), so it's silly for you to surmise that ONLY AMERICANS live this type of life. Also, there's only one person from the lower forty-eights featured on this show while the rest are native to Tanana. Furthermore, these people live in a mode of sustenance that is not unique to Americans. You can find people living in these conditions throughout the globe and not just in the Northern areas either.

Tell me where I ever said Russians don't live like this. Many Americans actually seek out this life. What I've read that since the collapse of the Soviet Union, many people in Siberia have actually left the region.

Lol... what rock are you living under? You think it's "hard" to be an American and making a living of the wild? Seriously you have no idea what you're talking about. How about you move down to Africa out in the plains in a small tribe and then come talk about how "hard" it is.

I just caught some ridiculous line out of the show "we used to catch 300 fish a day! Now we're lucky to catch 20". That's what happens when you show no respect for the wild and just fish and fish the *beep* out of the waters. At least some people in the world have common sense with overfishing. If you take something you better give something back or it'll come back and bite you in the ass one day.

Another thing I don't like about the show is the over the top dramatic scene they're trying to create, this isn't poor fishers bad tho, it's the horrible editing.

Cut back on the "it's the end of the world" bs and the show might be worth watching. They've clearly made it this long without any problems and now all of the sudden when the camera is rolling the end is nigh?

Huldu... Do you live in Africa?

It's certainly harder making it in the wilds of Alaska than living in a high rise working as a call girl.
Btw,I use that as an example because the media wants us to have more sympathy for people selling drugs than for hard working salt of the earth types.

We've got a hater here. Americans are frontiersmen by default. Like it or not. I love this show.

My issue with it is the Title. Yukon men implies they live in the Yukon. They live in Alaska by a part of the Yukon river, but, the Yukon is in Canada. I started watching thinking they were in Canada and the constant referals about being in Alaska was kind of confusing for the first few shows.

Call it Alaskan Men or something that actualy reflects that.

I have family in Yellowknife,Nwt and in Whitehorse,Yukon. So at first I watched in hopes of seeing familiar places. Kept watching because it was a good show.
