These producers still don't have faith in audiences

Special Chabbis could have been an epic pacy heist thriller if they have cut Kajal Agarwal character and two very unnecessary songs. Thing is that producers still don't have faith in audiences and that is the reason why they put these commercial stuffs which are not demanded in script. I believe producers have interfered badly with the script which resulted in 30min of unnecessary footage. Producers should understand that those days are gone when audiences used to look movies for songs or heroines or romance. Take example of Kahaani, it was pacy and had no forced scenes.

Also since big star like akki was involved, they could of done away with Kajal's character, or written her role realistically that fits in the script where she is part of the heist and ajay's lover at the same time and only create song and dance as a promotional video rather than have it in the film. Don't worry song from Oh My God did not appear in the movie but was used for promotional video. Neeraj is brilliant director but I think Special chabbis is doing even bigger because akshay's starpower is carrying it to bigger success as after the good content his fans have flocked to the theatres. Have akshay not been in the film and it had unknown actor in his place, then it would of done good in a lower scale after good WOM.

English vinglish worked without a love story or song dance? or a hero. I don't think it's producers, perhaps akshay suggested the director to add a heroine to make it commercial. Why A Wednesday didn't have that then?

reply

I don't think Akki has to do anything with the script. A Wednesday was made by UTV spot boys who believes in quality and have give proper independence to directors and scriptwriters. Dev.D, Aamir, No One Killed Jessica, Udaan, are some other brilliant examples of that. I believe Viacom is more of a commercial production house and new in a cinema department so they didn't wanted to risk there money by making Special Chabbis whole as a thriller without songs and a love story.

i agree.. she probably "compromised" with their camp.. makes no other sense to put her angle in it.. would have been better showing akshays character as a casanova.. defeated the entire frantic pace of the movie..also i think manoj bajpayee hammed it up a little too much.. i mean.. i understand looking like you are always on a low boil BUT looking constipated is not the same.

They played down her looks a lot. She looked really fugly in this movie.

You can clearly see the producer's masala in this. Especially in the cheap jokes about the cleavage... although it was fun to watch :)

You don't know the front benchers. You still have to pander to them. Plus, these front benchers make the majority of the audience. So it was probably the producer's wish to put songs and romantic track to bring more front benchers in and ensure more cash flow. Unnecessary but didn't hamper the movie too much.
