Jimmy, McHale just disappears...? Could have been much better

It was a different approach to a possession movie and I liked it a lot. However the editing could have been much better, some scenes seemed to drag on forever and then some things got skipped almost entirely. It left the movie a bit confusing in the end. The plot was also quite thin, the script would have needed some more work on it.

For example Jimmy's character was stabbed and the next thing we know is the main character confessing his sins to the priest. Nothing about Jimmy, he's never mentioned again during the whole movie. It bothered me for the rest of the movie.
I saw a post here saying there's another version of the movie where Jimmy makes it and is at the christening in the end of the movie. I'd like to see this version, maybe it's not as puzzling as the one I actually saw. The exorcism scene dragged on forever as did the scene in the car where the priest tells about his past.

It's a shame, could have been a really good movie.

At the beginning of the confession scene he states that if he got there sooner jimmy's character may have survived. So he died. May not have had a huge send off but that's what happened

ok, I had totally missed that. Thanks. Still weird he is never mentioned again. I guess because of the alternative version I have not seen.

I think the idea was that Butler's death is what convinces Sarchie to humble himself before the Lord. But I agree with you it did seem oddly paced. And the exorcism did seem long and tedious. The thrill of the mystery and the actual assaults by the possessed were more entertaining than the exorcism of the demon.

Felt exactly the same way. Regarding Butler's death, why only two cops would attempt to arrest such a dangerous character in a dark, dingy building, I don't know. It would seem to be asking for trouble. And then he's virtually not referenced again and we end up with an exorcism that goes on for what seems like 30 minutes of screen time.🐭
