Cancellation proves the adult animation bubble in bursting
This year and last, has seen the cancellation and end of a lot of arguably really good adult animations: Ugly Americans, The Cleveland Show, Futurama, Life and Times of Tim and many more.
And even Adult Swim has noticeably shifted its attention from animations to live actions.
What's left are the classic 'The Simpsons' winning formula, middle class family dysfunction: Family Guy, American Dad, Bob's Burgers and South Park, which survives through nostalgia and an almost manic pursuit of relevance.
Gone are the heydays of quirky dramedy animations and alternative humour that found success in the past without being zany and spontaneous satires of modern life such like: Daria, King of the Hill, The Maxx, Home Movies.
This is one of the smartest, most spiritual and complex animations I've watched in years and that's exactly why it failed. When we see animation, we see an excuse to devolve in arbitrary jokes and suspending the laws of physics. We no longer see it as an alternative medium, but just a mode of humour.
If a show like Out There can't get renewed then I think it's really the end of era in animation.
