It was a special election. I think those tend to have lower turnout.
The real surprise was that they were updating vote counts while the polls were still open. Though a one point they called them "exit polls", I've never seen an exit poll estimate an exact vote count.
4. It's surprisingly easy to find a place to park right in front of your home in downtown Boston.
