That's actually from the source material "Pygmalion". Eliza Doolittle's father argues that to be given a large sum of money would move him into a status most unbecoming. He'd rather have a smaller sum to have a good time, without responsibility.

3. US Congressional seat for Boston area voted by less than 50,000 voters.

(Average population per U.S. Representative is over 600,000.)

It was a special election. I think those tend to have lower turnout.

The real surprise was that they were updating vote counts while the polls were still open. Though a one point they called them "exit polls", I've never seen an exit poll estimate an exact vote count.
