Even after reading the excellent Guardian blog, here's a theory SPOILERS

Am wondering if the "powers that be" who are perpetrating this huge financial scam are using a series of targeted financial managers (like Veras) that they use for 5-year periods.

When the 5 years are up, they contrive to get them to kill themselves. [You know, kill yourself or we kill your son, you choose.] Problem solved as far as evidence and testimony. Nobody's going to turn state's evidence if they are...dead.

Then the next guy is singled out and becomes the financial manager for the perpetrated financial crimes. We saw what happened to the SECOND bloke. Five years were up to the day and he shuffled off the mortal coil by his own hand.

There is one hint that made me think that, other than the key timing of the deaths (five years to the day on 22:10), after they stop handling the money.

A day or so after Veras shot himself the financial investigators noticed every single krone was gone from the accounts they were investigating. It disappeared without trace.

So maybe it went into the next secret accounts for the next guy to manage...until his time was up and he ended up hurtling off the cliff like Evil Knievel.
