Too bad it's on Channel4---good show ruined by where it airs

I know networks with adverts are the norm rather than the exception, but have given up on this show about 30 minutes into the first episode.

It has nothing at all to do with the content, setting or actors. It's the venue of Channel4.

Okay. Hand up. Admit to being spoiled rotten by the BBC4 appointment teevee Saturday nights with two hours of Scandi drama, advert-less and flowing beautifully from scene to scene, never interrupting the narrative. Same for the BBC iplayer.

But this show has a lot of characters, budding plots and things that just are annoying to keep track of with 5 minute breaks every few scenes. Too much of a time waster.

What a shame that this monster hit with Norway's viewers has been sold to the philistines at Channel4. (Oh they occasionally still do the odd quality thing, unlike years past when they had great series. But they've destroyed this show.)

I've looked at Hulu, Amazon Prime and the US Netflix. "Mammon" does not seem to appear on the normal pay venues.

Is it anywhere but NRK and now Channel4? I looked at NRK and whilst I do not read Norwegian, not sure it appears any longer there on their player, either. Unless I misunderstood. And the one pseudo kosher site on which I can usually find anything at all, does not seem to have it yet.

Am rather stumped now.

Dont most people have PVR's these days? I havent seen an advert in a decade :)

Plus, I prefer to have all the episodes before watching things like this.

Thank heavens indeed!

I just discovered a couple more to add to your excellent list: "The Spider" ("Edderkoppen" in Danish).

It's from a long time ago in TV-time: 2000. But it was amazing. It starred a very young Jakob Ceregren (He's also in "Those Who Kill," another great Danish noir). Also Lars Mikkelsen. Directed by Ole Christian Madsen, that edgy director.

It's a Danish gangster noir! Imagine. It's 1949, the post war dulls have set in in Copenhagen and the gangsters are up too all sorts. It's just great. It's showing on US tv right now on the MHZ international channel.

Another new one in the Scandi noir is a VERY stylish and pretty production: "Crimes of Passion." (Swedish.)

Think "Mad Men" meets "Miss Marple." It has the GORGEOUS brilliance of '50s clothing and cars and all the rest. The colors are literally brilliant and the period detail is amazing. They threw away the grey lens filters and let the sun shine in...no dark Scandi mood scenes--it's all sun.

The plots are routine, but it's dressed up so nicely it's fun to watch. It's seriously sexy with the lead, a female academic, always stumbling across murders to solve, because one of her best buddies is a police inspector, played with sexy droll by too-handsome-to-bear-it Ola Rapace.

Her love interest is another fellow, Rapace's best friend. And they form a kind of dynamic threesome (of course both of them are crazy in love with her...naturally.)

It sets up a jealousy thing when she's always running off to solve crimes with Rapace whilst her boyfriend stands around like a gooseberry.

Really fun and visually stunning series. It's mostly about the visuals and the tringle of tension between the three--with murder solving thrown in. More Miss Marple on the crime front than "Engrenges."

Thanks!

Welcome news for the BBC4 tribe!

As I said, "Crimes of Passion" isn't "The Spider" or "The Bridge." But it's a bit of pretty fun.

You guys forgot to mention a couple I keep on my list(a list I haven't fully built yet).
Anyway THE UNIT(Danish) and the great BECK, as in Martin Beck, about 8 seasons MHZ.
Also the pretty cool Swedish women cop on island...umm Maria...ummm..heck can find ..ah Google is great MARIA WERN a couple of seasons, pretty good style, well done and good plots.
And of course as I have said elsewhere make sure you experience all 3 Wallander versions, Rolf, Krister, Kenneth B. I like the KH ones best but all are totally worth watching.
Oh oh and am totaling getting into THE PROTECTORS ..(not the Amercized bad copy of course).
And the FRENCH SPIRAL getting to like it thru all the gore...hard to eat and watch at same time YIKES.
Guess I better add to or make my list. Brogan from Seattle.
