Did anyone else find this moving kind of traumatising?

I kind of found this movie very disturbing, the scene were lita got her eyes cut out was horrible, very bloody and disgusting, it was enough to make the whole movie really disturbing, especially since I didn't see the whole thing, just a little bit before that part to the end!!

reply

Yes very disturbing. I hating the scene where they were just smashing Gus' legs with sledgehammers.

reply

Yeah, I agree it was, I didn't see that part since I didn't watch the whole movie, but I remember the part where Lita got her eyes cut out by maynard and that scene really nauseated me it was really gross and disturbing!!

reply

The scene on the field with the snow blower makes me absolutely sick. The final scene where they pick her up leaves a sour taste in my mouth, it's haunting wondering what they did to her afterwards considering what Maynard threatened to do to her earlier.

"He came to life...good for him"

reply

Yeah, thank god I didn't see the whole movie haha it sounds horrible, it seems even worse than both versions of I spit on your grave, that's bad!!

reply

Yes I can't believe SyFy actually shows these movies during the day when children might be watching. That type of brutality on day time TV doesn't need to be shown. It would be very disturbing to any child who might even just see a scene or two.

reply

Yeah, I bet they are going to gang rape her, like maynard said he wanted to do, they will probably show it in wrong turn 6 which I don't really plan to watch after seeing this one lol!!

reply

It’s the only third-rate horror movie that’s ever gotten under my skin. (Even Wrong Turn 1, which also got under my skin, was second-rate.) Two reasons: the fact no one survives, and the ending, as we know what awaits the girl.

reply

I caught it on Syfy so it may have been toned down, Maynard just grabbed the knife/letter opener and spun around, next thing you saw was Leta stumbling out of the station with blood dripping from her eye sockets - was there more to it?

Once "the drunk" left to get help I began thinking that Leta would let him out but that he would kidnap her and they would basically keep impregnating her to create more family members, though he said they would just kill her after each taking a turn.

reply

It was sure mean in tone which was surprising. I felt terrible for Lita.

reply

Yeah, I wrote a similar post back in early 2013. I don't like it when horror films move into violence pornography, for example, 'Hostel', 'Saw', and now, 'Wrong Turn 5'. This is where innocent people, even if they're not nice or even nasty, are depicted as victims of horrendous physical violence, torture, mutilation, death, and cannibalism. I especially hate this kind of violence depicted against women. You're all right. I found the violence against Lita especially disturbing. The hillbilly cannibals and their normal-looking leader were just plain sadistic. These movies glorify sadism and that should not be shown. Even movies that depict sadism against heinous villains, like, 'Sin City', are disturbing because you don't fight evil with evil. The end result is going to be, duh, victorious evil, even stronger.

reply

But violence against men is OK or lesser in impact?
Get out of here.
You're overthinking a simple film and whenever someone starts using the "porn" word in horror I know they don't know what they're talking about and coming from a far biased viewpoint to make an impartial and honest comment.

I'm a girl and I agree. I love gore and the gorier the movie the better! I love zombies, slasher, cannibalism, torture, psychological horror. It's just movies I don't see the problems.

reply

Obviously these should only be shown late at night. But SyFy runs them all during the day when any child might happen by and see some girl getting carved open or worse (usually worse).

A few people are saying we use the "torture porn" term too often but it is clearly appropriate in the case of these movies. The violence is done simply to gross out the viewer and elicit a "EWWWW" response.

In many horror movies any violence done advances the plot and usually the worse is not seen. To me the true horror lies in our imagination. Why show an axe being plunged into a head? Or a chainsaw taking off limbs? In Scarface the famous chainsaw scene never actually shows any damage done. No limbs, no cutting- just blood on the show curtain and walls. To me, that is enough & it demonstrates how the director is making the plot, the story the focus- not needless butchery.

reply

I thought it was hilarious. If she hadn't let the guy she might have kept her eyes.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.

reply

Exactly! Lita was incredibly stupid and I had no sympathy for her.

If we wanna hear you talk, I will shove my arm up your ass and work your mouth like a puppet!

reply

Eh, Lita gets zero sympathy from me; her stupidity could have get both her and the cop killed on the spot (as it was, it definitely ruined any small chance of surviving they had), and she took the first opportunity to ran on the sheriff.

Now, if you want to be traumatized by a GOOD film involving eye horror, may I recommend The Mansion of the Doomed (1976)? :)

reply

The first Wrong Turn was good. Every sequel has only gotten worse. Part 2 was just awful and I don't even want to talk about part 3. I haven't seen part 4 because I refuse to watch any more sequels. Why does Hollywood continue to take good movies and ruin them by making terrible sequels? Friday the 13th, Hellraiser, Phantasm and Nightmare on Elm Street were good movies that, IMO, never should have had sequels. Ah well, guess money talks and the rest walks.

I can't comment on this movie because I haven't seen it but I assume it's just one big gorefest.

Long live the 70s!

reply

I have no idea why I persist in watching this series. I'm not into torture porn movies, the deaths make me roll my eyes, and the mutants are overpowered to the point of being boring.

5 was really quite different from the others. There was a definitely note of self-parody in the film (which I liked) but at the same time it was extremely mean spirited in a way none of the other entries have been.

I don't find the movies disturbing. They're over the top gorefests that WANT to disturb, hence the ridiculous over the top deaths that get more and more outrageous with each entry. By the 5th movie, if you've seen any of the others you should know what you're getting into with the franchise.

I'm not sure who is at the helm of the 6th movie. It'll be interesting to see what we get. I do hope it's not quite as mean spirited as 5.
