Uh cuz he is not the Tooth Fairy, Santa or Jesus Christ.

So besides that, his manners were flawless?

He's a psychopath who lies. My question is more of how come he wasn't eaten by the hillbillies years ago?

Exactly, he's a psychopath who lies. Now, as to why the hillbillies didn't eat him a long time ago is because he controls them. As its shown early in the movie, he controls the hillbillies. What I don't get is how he was able to put both her eyes out with a letter opener when she had him at gunpoint. I've addressed this before on the board and some of the answers I got were that she didn't have it in her to pull the trigger, she thought that by just holding a gun on him that he wouldn't try anything but that she didn't have what it took to actually use the gun when the necessity arose. Well, she had her finger on the trigger and she looked and sounded like she meant business that if he tried anything she would shoot him. Even if she didn't have what it took to shoot him mentally, she did have her finger on the trigger, and when somebody spins around on you with a letter opener, your natural reaction would be to squeeze the trigger, whether you intend to or not. So it makes sense she would've shot him before he could use the letter opener. Now. another answer I got is that she had the safety on. For somebody who is not familiar with the particular gun they're using and Lita came across to me as somebody who wasn't familiar with any guns much less the one she had in that scene, they might not know how to operate it properly including knowing what kind of safety controls the gun has and how to deactivate them. That might've been the case with Lita and the gun she had but in the next scene, where you see the sheriff outside waking up and coughing from the explosion, it sounds like a shot was fired and at first I thought Lita had shot Maynard, that was right before Lita comes stumbling out of the station, bloody eyes and all. So since it sounds like a shot had gone off that would've meant that the safety wasn't on or if it was on Lita was able to put it off. She could've shot and missed but I don't see how even somebody who had never picked up a gun before could've missed from so close, especially since she had the gun right on him. So since you hear a shot being fired that would've meant the gun went off, so that even if Lita couldn't bring herself to fire the weapon and even if the safety had been on, the gun had fired and I would think Maynard would've been hit.

Furthermore, I don't see why she would just stand there and let him put both her eyes out with the letter opener. She is able to get away from him when she comes stumbling out of the station so I would think that even if she isn't able to shoot him, she should be able to get away before he puts both her eyes out. I don't know what the writer was thinking.

From that close? She was at point blank and had the gun right on him. Even if she had no training with guns I don't see how she could've missed.

reply

Big surprise... but she should have shot him in the cell !!!

reply

If she did she could be charged with murder as she would have no reason to shoot him in the cell since he can't harm her. When he's out of the cell and coming at her with a letter opener than she would be justified in shooting him as that would be self defense.

Because some men just want to see the world burn? Whatever, Lita was the poster child for every idiot slasher victim out there (hand to the Goddess I've seen Friday 13th SECONDARY characters making smartest choices). It wouldn't have surprised me the least if she somehow managed to shot herself while aiming straight at the sociopath's head.

It seemed inevitable they were going to be able to get in the jail and kill her the way things were going but instead of trusting him there's a 3rd option.Just run out the back door after the sheriff left?Am I missing something?
