season 4 not like the others

It's not that it was perfect before, but this season he's overdoing it. Too many unnatural gestures. Someone has to tell Ian Barry, the director, and Craig McLachlan to take it down a bit.

And another thing that needs some change is the music. The main theme can be altered a little because after 4 seasons is a little annoying already. And the rest of the sound can get lighter. It's too gloomy sometimes and the show isn't that dark.

It sure isn't because the previous seasons did not have Anna McGahan as Rose whom I fell instantly in love with.

If you like Anna McGahan then you should probably watch House Husbands and Anzac Girls, both very different, you will also see the very beautiful Georgia Flood in both of those (as Annas half sister in HH and a nurse in AG)

For me it's different as it doesn't have as much of his home life and work outside of the Police department in it - there are the interactions with Doctor Harvey which are good but it's still all about his work. As Mattie isn't there in the home anymore there isn't so much conversation / interaction with people in his home anymore. I hope he gets more people to stay and there's more about his home life in the next series.

The Sydney Sunday Telegraph's Shannon Molloy says that the show has a massive following.

Well I can add a new reason for this following - Anna McGahan.

I agree that it's much more about Blake's work than his home life in S4.

Jean also seemed a lot more sidelined and it felt like her only storyline was the budding romance.

For me it felt like the cast was so much more disconnected than in previous seasons, in no small part due to the cast changes/lack of availability.

Hopefully S5 will improve things.

reply

Yes definitely. I'd really like to see Jean have more of a role, even in his work as well as his home, as she always gives him little tips on the local people etc.

I've enjoyed season 4 a lot, we got some glimpses into his previous life that we didn't previously had.... and one big change I like is that I hated how hostile the police "higher ups" were to their own police surgeon (as written), never really understood that, and was glad to see that change in season 4.... for the new Superintendent to tell Blake that he heard that he (Blake) gets results and that as long as he keeps that up, he (Supt) will let him keep doing what he does, that was a welcome change for me....
