Do they not like Communists then?

Something about this film led me to believe that Indonesians don't like Communists very much. Is that the case or was I totally picking up wrong vibes?

reply

"We want to exterminate the communists! (ahem) ... humanely, of course."

reply

I'm indonesian, i can answer that from my experience live in my country.

being called communist in indonesia is the worst, 32 years New order propaganda has change the word "communist" meaning to satanic, murderer, rebellious, pile of scum and worst.

even now after 16 years soeharto dictatorship ended the majority of the population still believe this propaganda.

reply

Communism is the ultimate taboo, along with atheism. Be Hindu, gay, polygamous, whatever... but woe betide you if you declare yourself communist over there.

And it's not just a Muslim attitude. The worst anti-communist massacre was actually in Bali (Hindu), which lost proportionally more inhabitants than the Khmer Rouge in Cambodia.

reply

i think they just mildly disliked communists

Maggots Michael, you're eating maggots.

reply

Not mildly. Anti-communist would be the right word I use.

Communist is consider taboo in the country. Just by owning books or symbols of communist will earn you one-way ticket to prison.
