I want to see a n American and an Australian remake.

I think this movie is almost like a stage play in it's intensity. As a classical piece of cinema it would be marvellous to see an Australian version and an American version of purgatory. Retain the script and the score. Modify the script to suit the conflict and film away. These characters could be French, German, American, Australian. It's universal. Imagine 300 years trapped in purgatory. What a *beep* way to spend eternity.

She has a kind of psychiatric cabaret. Very good. There was something about Suez.

I suspect many American viewers watch this under the impression that it is about the American civil war. In other words, the movie could be easily fitted into the American context. For an Australian remake, some plot details would have to be changed.
