Same, saw it on Netflix and thought what the heck. I didn't mind that it was simple and low-budget; the acting was good and I expected completely the opposite ending from what it turned out to be. They didn't need to hit the audience over the head with a message in so many words - the devastation of all of these lives was palpable throughout, so, wisely, they let that speak for itself.
Really liked the two young leads, too. They worked well together. The characterizations were awfully simplistic, but the emotional complexity of their interactions rose above that limitation. A solid grade up from the usual light fare of this sort.
