Les is clearly bashing on Bear Grylls (man v. Wild) lol

So in the past couple episodes, he has clearly referenced Bear Grylls stunts like diving into whirling pools and jumping around etc, etc, Im paraphrasing but has anyone else noticed this?

There is no way it's random comments. I thought it may have been one or two in the first two episodes, but in part 2 of the Norway series, he is obviously talking about Bear.

Awesome. Les is the real deal. Bear would get someone killed. Not that I'm taking away from the fact Bear is an experienced person and former special forces or whatever, but Survivorman seems far more like how it would be.

It brought a smile to my face. I've only seen part 2 of the Norway episode, I haven't seen the rest of the new series. Has he made any reference to Bears faking it - pretending that he spent the night in the bush, when he was really staying at a hotel, and having the crew help him build rafts, etc?

Les is the man!!!

"My girlfriend sucked 37 d*cks!"
"In a row?"

It's hilarious, right? Did you happen to catch this one?

He came across a stream at the bottom of the mountain in Norway pt. 2 and said something like "Good thing there's a lot of fresh water around here, or I'd probably be reduced to drinking my own pee." *Begins to walk out of frame* "Haha...yea right."

I began cracking up as I realized it was a Bear Grylls reference and he was bashing his methods.

Just another reason why Les Stroud is a f'n champion.

This is a common misconception. Being in special forces makes you a combat expert in your area of training. NOT a survival expert by any means. They have some courses for this and spend time with nothing out in the wood, but by no means is this an expert level education in outdoor survival.

I'm more than an avid military historian and I know several people in different branches and studied most of the Special Ops and Special Forces (yes, there is a difference between special ops forces and special forces) in may countries.

The military isn't training park rangers. They're training for combat. Haven't read the rest of your post yet so I may get bak.

Hey Freak, if Bear knows what he is doing so well then why doesn't he do it for real? You can't say which is better because we haven't seen them both try to survive in the same environment. At least we do know that Les is actually surviving and not just demonstrating.

@freak And what do you have to say about Bear? At least Les actually does the work alone... He may have a rescue crew but I am sure he couldn't produce the show without it... Production companies probably have to insure his safety and other crew safety because of labor laws. They couldn't just let him do this alone. I think that Les shows more practical approaches to survival and it all seems plausible.

I thought the shots at Bear were hilarious.

He had another comment during the Norway episodes that was an obvious shot at Bear. It was something like, "You don't want to be jumping up and down cliffs like some sort of stuntman, and risking injury to yourself. Survival is all about not taking unnecessary risks."

I don't recall the exact quote, but it was something to that effect. It was an obvious reference to Bear, and Les Stroud is absolutely right. Half the things Bear Grylls does are stunts that someone shouldn't actually do if they find themselves in a survival situation.

I can assure you Les is not jealous of Bear. Les chose to put his show on hiatus cuz he was getting burned out with it. He was tops in the ratings and Discovery wanted more seasons from Les. I thought the comments we're funny not cheap shots. Les does make a point-in a real survival situation some of the things Bear does is just down right reckless and unnecessary. Les approaches his show as a survival teacher. Reminding the viewer one needs to keep his wits about him and use some common sense or you'll get yourself killed out there. Bear is badass-not just anyone can make it in the Special Forces. They are just two different people with diffrent shows. All the dumbass teenagers can pretend their Bear and all us older guys can learn a thing or too from Les. Peace~
