Disappointing - though par for the course for these ITV1 three-parters.

They're all utter gash to be honest.

Looks bobbins.

reply

They have butchered it terribly

reply

Well dont watch it, i think it has been fantastic.

i really loved the book, everything worked so well.....the tv adaptation has made unnecessary changes, altered the characters considerably and made what could be a promising drama into a shambles. I am sure Dorothy Koomson is ashamed of this butchery

reply

Well, for someone who has NOT read the book, it's - so far (all will depend on the final episode!) - not half bad.

And while not all of the acting is exactly brilliant, Martin Compston does a terrific line in sleazy!

reply

Compston is the best thing in it by a mile.

Never knew he could play sleazy so well.

Looks bobbins.

reply

Yes I admit he is rather tasty playing mr vile

reply

Yep I was disappointed too! The book was great, the adaptation really wasn't up to it. And I didn't like the ending change!

reply

In truth it's been 5 years since ITV started showing two and three-part dramas again having ditched them in the late 90s, and actually they haven't all been bad. When you get a good one ("Married Single Other", "Identity" or "Collision" for example) they are very good. Even some of the poorer ones (this one, "The Last Weekend", "Titanic" and "Flood") started well but wallowed away towards the end. I read in a newspaper article that Dorothy Koomson didn't like the change of ending but otherwise liked this adaptation

Perfection is boring - flaunt the imperfection!
