Why why why *spoilers*

Do they keep bringing Marlene into it?? She never met the girls, why does she keep making an appearance!!

The whole point is that she is anonymous, we only ever hear her on an answering machine. And she hates Marcus....so why is she being crowbarred in and one of his lovers??

Surly this way she is suspect nĂºmero uno!!

reply

I reckon it was Marlene who killed him or, more likely, the black girl's mum or sister.

Looks bobbins.

bizzare seeing marlene actually speaking to serena.....its such an unnecessary alteration to the book

I'm going to put it on the record - I strongly suspect Serena's sister is the killer.

Spoiler,
DON'T READ THIS IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN EPISODE 3!
At the end Serena looses all sympathy, she tells her husband she doesn't know what's right or wrong? She allowed Poppy to rot for 17 years after Poppy had helped her, what a great friend. Even if Poppy had come back in and finished him off after Poppy had stopped him from beating and raping Serena, the least she could have done was support her during her time in the 'Nik... Maybe offered Poppy a place to live after her release. What a creepy "friend" totally selfish. She dumped the whole thing on Poppy and took no responsibility for her part in the situation. Poor pathetic Serena, yeah right. Too bad Serena wasn't clipped by a passing car at the end...

reply

But neither of them did it...right?

Poppy stabbed him once and fled, then Serena's mother came in and stabbed him 10 more times. (With that much over the top brutality I do wonder about Serena's home life. No wonder Serena was drawn to such an abusive man.) The Mother never came forward and let Poppy rot as well. Regardless of Poppy being released her life is damaged beyond repair. The thought of her moving to London with Al and living with her sister isn't a fairy tale ending. She will carry the scars of incarceration for the rest of her life. Gee thanks Serena, what a stand-up friend.

Marlene killed him....who no one knows about, who no one ever meets. That's the beauty of the novel that no one ever meets or knows about her. What's serena mother got to do with anything.

Why kill the novel goodness knows....such a terrible butchery

Thank you!

I sat there watching it thinking i'd gone mad i was sure it was Marlene who stabbed him and got away with it.

Why change a story that worked!? Its my Sisters keeper all over again.

Musicals are what feelings sound like

I agree completely. The premise that a mother who supposedly loves her daughter and would do anything to protect her, then allows her to be tried for a murder she herself committed is totally ridiculous. This one definitely belongs in the "what were they thinking?" category.
