Why cast someone so ugly as Margaret Beaufort?
They couldn't get Margaret Hamilton, so they cast Amanda Hale? What a sour, shriveled hag she is. She looks like the ultimate dike nun.

She became a nun, actually, sort of, living in celibacy for married life. She wasnt known for her beauty either, but her wealth. She also gave birth at 13, and was so damaged, that she could not have children ever again. She was the driven, obsessed character in this drama, determined to see her son on the throne.

I know TV series have a right to take liberties with history. But from what I've read about her, Beaufort wasn't that much of a kook.
No, she wasn't. Nor was she obsessed and determined to put her son on the throne at any cost. Much of her efforts at intercession were aimed only at returning his title and property to him.
Amanda Hale though is a fine actress who played the part that was written for her very well I think.

Amanda Hale is one of the worst actresses I've seen ever and I'm in my 60s. Total ham. Unattractive to boot. I've seen paintings of Margaret Beaufort and casting an actress this ugly is an insult, not matter what you think of Margaret Beaufort.

I think that's the point... Not everyone was good looking back then, just like today. She was the most wicked of them all because she hid behind her religion. I think her and Anne were pretty much even in the looks department.
