If not Poussey, then who?

Which other "beloved" character would you have killed off instead of Poussey? Not somebody you can't stand but someone whose death would cause equal "dang it" responses.

I vote for Taystee.

I had heard that a main character died, and during the prison riot scene, I was sure it was going to be Suzanne, and I think it would have been way more upsetting if it had been.

I didn't mind Poussey dying because Samira is a painfully horrible actress. At least in this show she is. But to be honest, I don't think her death means much. It would have been a bigger statement if Sophia, Dayanara, Lolly, or Nicky had died instead.

In other words, you're an idiot.

In other words, you're both rather abrasive and hyperbolic in your statements. Hug it out!

This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

I don't engage in petty squabbles on here anymore. So I figured I'd just repeat the trolling comment and see if he would stick around or leave. It was an experiment. And notice he hasn't come back. Troll repellent effective, lol!!

One of the hispanics maybe? I don't know, it's always hard with this show but Poussey's death was a complete surprise to me, I thought she'd stick around till the end.

I would have taken anyone over Poussey , except Nicky.. even Piper. Poussey's death affected me for days.

I second that emotion! 😢Another one would have to be Crazy Eyes and Sophia. Poussey's death had me feeling like I lost one of my homegirls..

I don't know that any other character *could* have elicited such a response from the audience as Poussey did. And I think a lot of it is that of all the characters, she was truly the one where we all thought, "What is she doing there?" She was smart, but unlike Piper, didn't feel the need to show off everything she knew (which made her *smarter* than Piper, when you think about it.) She stuck to her beliefs, she had a good sense of self-worth, she had a good moral compass, and she knew how to be strong without getting in everybody else's face. You always got the impression that of all the characters, she was the only one where prison did not change her or break her, that she was still the same girl before, during, and after the experience. I think the audience feels the Poussey is the person they'd like to be--quietly strong, smart without being a showoff, confident, loving, funny--and her death sort of feels like the death of the best part of everybody.

This.

It wouldn't have worked with any other character. Poussey was never a favorite for me, but she's so child like and non aggressive and cool and chill and optimistic. She was the light amongst the black girls, and it's incredibly sad that it's gone now.

Except prison did drive Poussey to alcoholism.

I have a good amount of favorites on this show. Poussey was one of them and her being gone wrecks me, but if something happens to Red or Taystee I'm done
