Really good movie

From the opening credits, I knew this would be a good one. Just great attention to detail in all of the visuals and some very innovative camera shots. Can't say I saw any weak links in the movie. Usually I'm not a big fan of Zhao Wei but she was both beautiful and very emotionally engaging in this movie; literally could not take my eyes off of her whenever she was on screen. Zhou Xun did a great job too.

For me, the demon hunter guy was bordering on being a bit too hokey/old school HK action film sort of cheesy comedy, but thankfully I think he came close to but didn't pass the line of no return in terms of hokiness. I really like how they fit together several complicated storylines and made them really work together. The cg overall was strong, especially for a HK movie. The only issue I had was with the bear, which could have been animated better with a more realistic fur pass but otherwise everything else looked convincing yet stylized. I didn't really see where things were going until the end of the film so the build up was all very organic. I love stories dealing with ancient Chinese myths and in the past they've ended up being pretty cheesy but finally this film does it justice.
