This or the original movie?

The first painted skin is much better than this. Although this sequel has the big budget, the dazzling CG, it also has an incoherent plot full of plot holes. TheAwesomeness89's user review sums it up pretty well.

This movie would only appeal to the shallow-minded who is dazzled by the CG, to the intelligent, it is an insult to the mind with inconsistencies and plot holes that is so glaringly obvious it is painful to watch. I was moved by the first movie by the sequel is just so over the top theatrically, and silly/hokum that it showcases how much more the Chinese film industry needs to grow. Just in case you think this is China-bias, the movie is panned by many in China for its ridiculous plot. Just skip this one altogether and go watch the first one by Gordon Chan.

Maybe I prefer CGI embellished movies with cheesy simplicity in opposed to clubhonda’s preference of no plot-hole but convoluted storyline. I thought the sequel was very watchable. I especially liked that I was able to concentrate on the 3 main characters’ story. The first movie with the love triangle was confusing. Until the end, I wasn’t sure who loves who more and find myself not rooting for anyone. With the sequel, I’m very satisfied with the ending.
