Crap film, don't bother

Title says it all. Jesus, what did I just sit through? Hokey love story, poor action, anti-climatic ending, and what the hell happened to the evil queen? She just vanished, never to be seen again. The visuals were nice and easy on the eyes, but visuals don't make movies. And this had some of the most ridiculous plot developments you're ever going to see. Lol. Just lol. Unless you're Chinese and/or like some of the stars in this, steer clear.

was it released in theatres?

"I think I liked it better when I thought Sylar ate brains."

Hmm, David Bordwell seems to think otherwise. I will take his opinion over yours and wait for this movie to come round here. And this is supposed to be the biggest box-office hit in China to date, as well!

reply

Lol, don't care. Your loss.

Look CatSuitShawty ..after reviewing your profile & reading all the hate you spewed for everything & everybody affiliated w/ the film industry, and of another culture http://www.imdb.com/user/ur27405871/boards/, I've concluded that either your over-emotional feminine manly 'behind' is wearing your cat-suit 5 sizes too small, waltzing around the city w/ a super-sized wedgie "or" you were fathered & raised by a violent pack of Hollywood drag queens until the age of 40. As for that "89" tagged at the end of your handle, either that's your age or the yr you left the coop ..but it sure in hell isnt your yr of birth. Dont even try to fake it lol!! That is too young to be so miserable

Whatever your story may be, animosity & misery illuminates from you like the Australian sun on an aussie's bare-behind! Holding grudges doesn't hurt anybody besides the individual holding the grudge!!!

Lol. Where the hell did this crackpot pop up from?

Dunno what you're whinging about. Don't even know you, nor do I want to. I merely pointed out a crap, poorly made film. Lol, don't act like you read my entire post history, you dildo. Your comments just prove you clearly haven't.

Clearly someone liked this poor excuse of a film. My guess is you're one of the few. After that little bitch rant I can't say I'm that surprised.

I liked it, enjoyed both of them immensely, but I can understand why some people wouldn't fancy it. And I agree with what the OP said about not being able to appreciate the film "unless you're Chinese."

The movie's supposed to be based loosely on a Chinese horror fairytale book. Lots of cultural elements are integrated in it. I suppose it probably was mainly targeted at the Chinese audience, because if you watch it and you're Chinese you go along with it, but if you're not and you're not into the Chinese culture you would probably go, "Huh wtf?"

reply

I'm not Chinese but I loved it. It reminded me of classic 80's Hong Kong flicks like A Chinese Ghost Story, just updated with computer effects and such.

I'm not chinese... well only 1/4 genetically and not at all culturally.
the film was a fun bit of eye-candy and I enjoyed the heck out of it.
The plot structure is very different from a traditional "western" film, and seems to be 5 acts instead of the more common 3.
Plus the story beats don't land in the same place, and sometimes lack the repetition that western audiences are used to, so plot points seem to "come out of nowhere".

Those cultural storytelling differences aside, I don't think that where you come from will have any impact on whether or not you like it.
You just need an open mind, and a willingness to appreciate the artistry presented to you.
