Jason cottel as david aka solid snake?

So I was looking through the cast and saw jason cottel was cast as david. For those who don't know jason cottel provided the voice for cole in Infamous 1&2. And now he's cast as david in the phantom pain. I always thought cole sounded a bit like snake. And if the casting turns out to be true I think he would be a perfect replacement for david hayter.

reply

Sorry he was only involved in infamous 1

reply

Sorry, but no. I was totally fine with Sutherland as Big Boss, i never saw Big Boss and Solid Snake as the same character, but replacing Hayters Solid Snake is just crossing the line, not a chance.

This might be a new david, or even posibbly a young Solid Snake (like 12-15)

reply

Look I would love for david hayter to voice solid snake. I'm not saying I'm glad jason cottel is replacing him but I can't think of anyone better to replace him. And yes if solid snake is in the phantom pain he would have to be young verry young

reply

There's no reason to believe Phantom Pain goes beyond 1984, Solid Snake can't make an appearance because him and Big Boss didn't meet until Snake was recruited into FOXHOUND in 1995.

That and there's more than one character in the series named David, Major Zeroes real name is also David.

And finally, this is most likely a complete crap edit just like some months ago when David Hayter was in the cast list as Big Boss even after it was confirmed he wouldn't be in the game at all, the fact that Konami and Kojima Productions have said absolutely nothing about this kinda makes that obvious, especially since Cottel has been in the cast list for a little more than two weeks now.

So it's most likely a false edit, which happens all the time, people could put David Bowie as the sole actor for every character in any film or video game ever made if they wanted to, hell someone even changed Eva's MGS3 voice actress to Meryl's voice actress and used "She kinda sounds like her." as a reason for the edit, then Marilyn Manson was put on the cast list for some TV show and some ten year old rumor was put in as the reason for it.

There could be more changes though since Kojima is Retconing some MGS facts with this game. Already we see changes from the canon plot. Ocelot said that he never met Big Boss again after Operation Snake Eater, yet here we are with a Big Boss game with him and Ocelot meeting again.

reply

And where exactly did Ocelot say that he never met him again? Nevermind don't even bother trying to prove it because I and every other fan who actually pays attention already knows that's not true.

If Ocelot never met Big Boss again after Snake Eater, then how did Big Boss find out about the LET project? Because Ocelot was the one who told him about it, not to mention the fact that they were both in the Patriots together.

And keep in mind, Kojima said that MGS5 MIGHT retcon things in the other games, which is a statement of a possibility, he didn't say that MGS5 WILL retcon things in the other games, which is a statement of fact.

reply

"Big Boss heads up FOXHOUND while Revolver Ocelot rises in rank in the Spetsnaz in Russia (all the while helping the CIA and the Patriots in America as a double agent). By the time Revolver Ocelot is recruited by FOXHOUND (when he's at least 50, no?) Big Boss has been shown as the creator of Outer Heaven (MG) and gone off into hiding in Zanzibar, if not already killed by Solid Snake(MG2). This is shown by Solid Snake never having met him before MGS1 (or any of the other newer members since he quit)."

Until MGS5 was announced, the canon had it that Ocelot got Zero to get Big Boss recruited into the Patriots but was not around when Big Boss was there. Big Boss found out that Medic got his DNA for a clone and left. Kojima himself said that Ocelot and Big Boss never met in person again after SE, because of Ocelot fighting in Russia and then Big Boss reconstructing his base.

When it was shown in the first trailer that Ocelot was with Big Boss, Kojima was asked about it. Kojima said that he was retconing parts of the story to fit better and hoped that MG1 and 2 would be remade with the Fox Engine so that it fit the changes to the story better.

Remember also that Ocelot joined Foxhound after the fall of the Soviet Union, at which time Big Boss was long gone.

reply

And this was stated where exactly? Because I recently played all of the games through from start to finish and it was never said in any of them.

Don't put all your faith in what Kojima says happens, especially if it contradicts what happens in the games, such as him saying that Solid Snake is a sociopathic monster who has no emotions and just follows orders without questioning them, Solid Snakes actions and dialogue in the games contradict that statement, making it irrelevant. At the end of Portable Ops, Ocelot executes the acting DCI to steal the Philosophers Legacy and as revenge for them setting up The Boss (his mother) to be killed, the DCI was going into an underground bunker located in the US, meaning he wasn't in Russia at the time that the Patriots were formed, this fact contradicts Kojima's statement, making his statement invalid.

It's always been known that Ocelot directly tells Big Boss about the LET project, which contradicts Kojima's statement that they never met again after Snake Eater, which makes his statement invalid.

Him saying things happened one way is only relevant if they're actually shown to happen that way in the games, if he says they happen one way and the games show they happen another, then the games take priority over his word.

Good point Riddlebox. It threw me through a loop when Kojima first said that. I remember there was a big uproar on IGN's forums over people arguing about it.

Kinda OT, but I noticed in the trailer, during the scenes of Ocelot watching BB's recruits train, one is shooting an automatic from the hip Ocelot style. Wonder if that will factor into the game when you can play as different soldiers like in PW?

reply

I saw that today. Solid Snake's real name is David so. Kojima is a genius at throwing you off so when it comes to MGS' who knows. I'm pretty certain Eli is Liquid though.

reply

Major Zero's real name is also David, so someone being cast as a character named "David" doesn't automatically mean it's Solid Snake.

Especially since Kojima, KojiPro nor Konami have actually said anything about this and Cottel has been on the cast list for at least two or three months already, if they haven't said anything by now then it's most likely a false edit.

reply

David Hayter was shortly listed for like 2 seconds as playing "David" in this game.

Which was most likely put there by one of Hayter's rabid fanboys who can't grasp the fact that he's not in the game.

reply

Yeah... its a shame
