8.1 really? Overrated..
A decent movie. But no way on earth it is 8.1 movie, at best its 6.5
shareAt best, 10/10.
shareHow can a movie be overrated? Are you saying that the people who rated this film highly are being dishonest?
shareAre you for real?
shareYes. People use the term without ever explaining what they mean by it. As I see it there are only two possible definitions of overrated:
1. Because my rating of a film (or book, song, sandwich, etc.) is not a matter of subjective opinion but of objective fact, my rating should be normative for all people. Therefore, anyone who rates this film higher than me is overrating it and in error.
2. Opinions, including my own, are subjective, but people aren't rating a film (or book, etc.) honestly in accordance with their low opinions and in doing so are overrating the film.
The second is often true unfortunately, and probably true to this movie too.
shareI think it's less true today than ever before. Surely you've observed this in your ten years on IMDB. Popular, critically acclaimed films are trashed quite regularly. Sacred cows are no longer recognized. As for a smaller film like this, it isn't going to receive as much hate because most of its limited audience like this sort of film and most of those who don't never even heard of it, much less saw it.
shareI can't say honestly I've observed that. People don't change, unfortunately. They'll pose the way they think they'll look better.
shareLook better to who? A student in a film studies class might not want to be honest about the fact that she doesn't get what the big deal about Vertigo is or admit that she thinks that most of Kubrick's films are boring, but the internet is a different environment entirely.
"Overrated" was not even a word in common use a couple decades ago, yet I see or hear it being used pretty much every day now.
To anyone else. The people are the same as the student in the film class, only they care less about movies.
"Overrated" was not even a word in common use a couple decades ago, yet I see or hear it being used pretty much every day now.
Here we are behind aliases, and the social repercussions of expressing controversial or seemingly unpopular views are quite limited to the extent that they exist at all.
The wide use of term "overrated" suggests that a large number of people are, contrary to your experience, criticizing highly rated films. They are labeling them as "overrated."
I can't say honestly I've observed that.
No.
shareThanks for letting us know your rating.

I agree
shareLol the wolf of Wallstreet is sitting at an absurd 8.5-6 and your complaining about this film? Gotta get the priorities straight man....
shareTotally absurd, totally agree with you chico, Wolf of Wallstreet should be on at least a 9 or a 10. This film should be on a 5, very average acting, story, camerawork. Very telemovie feel.
shareYou might want to make learning contractions one of your priorities.
shareAgreed. It was dull, nothing new or original happened, and I just found myself cringing at how embarrassing some of the scenes were.
The only thing I smoke is suckas like you on the b-ball court.share
Same here..absolutely woeful film. Typical white people (who have their own issues) coming in and saving the kids in the hood type *beep* Can see why the hipsters are fawning over it
shareapparently the definition of overrated is when there is something getting praised and attention and you personally don't enjoy it. that word means nothing.
shareNo it means pretty much what you said.
sharelol in other words "apparently this word means exactly what it means. what a meaningless word."
