Troubling... but for another reason

This type of movies annoys me so much. I've just watched the trailer, and it seems very problematic.
There is a reason why adopting takes time, and it is normal procedures are slightly more complicated than when buying a pet. Americans always seem to 'feel soorry' for poor children across the world, but do not often challenge their views. First, the reasons these children are in poverty are often linked with macro structures, which the American government has been imposing for many decades (from prices to foreign policy). Of course, no reflection on that. It seems too difficult to think that helping children could actually start at home by putting pressure on the American government.

Second, American people are not rich, for the vast majority. Kids in America are also suffering. I realise it is unrelated to parents wanting a baby, which is totally legitimate. But beyond simply criticising lengthy procedures, there should be a reflection on poor governments, corruption, and ethics.

This film just appears to avoid the real questions of adoption: why are so many children in poverty, where do all their money go, and why procedures are complex. And no, it is not only 'the parents and the child' that counts, actions can have repercussions on systemic problems.

Please actually watch the whole movie.
The movie focuses on international adoption and policy and issues abroad, because these are issues that the producer focused on. It doesn't exclude those problems you named, it's just what the movie is about. It's BEYOND waiting for paperwork. It's about why is it that children spend many years in an orphanage when orphanages are meant to be temporary situations? Orphanages have been made a permanent place for children to go and never leave until they age out and are expected to survive on their own. It's about how we can have these kids thrive in a healthier situation through families and not have to waste away there.
It is ALSO questioning why adoption is so costly when it's a matter of life and death for children. There's a lot more to the movie than just the trailer and it's definitely not ALL criticism of lengthy procedures, but rather questioning lack of care and empathy to the children by pretty much everyone. I encourage you to just watch it.

This movie is about International adoption, not the things you mentioned so why would you expect it.

Of course, adoption takes time...but one couple got approved and received a photo of their child when he was 5 months old. They didn't get him until he was almost 4 years old due to a lot of red tape.
