What would you do?

I would torture him for the rest of his life. Caged, kept alive. But tortured for the rest of his days.

reply

Honestly.
I would have made him give a public apology for what he did and make the school principal put the punishment.

You just can't go around playing the eye for an eye game, one thing is defending yourself and attack back the people who is attacking you at the exact moment
For example in an extreme case if someone wants to shut you and you shoot first it's ok, but don't go to kill days latter someone who did something to a relative.

I believe you should let the justice system do their work or in this case the school principal

What Sally Field in the film eye for n eye was wrong, no one should do what she did

There is no functioning criminal justice system in Mexico, so -- since the father believes the girl to be dead -- he did just the right thing. I wonder why the movie ended there though. Why not show the happy surprise that his daughter is alive after all?

The last shot of Lucia seemed to be on another beach. I assumed she was going to kill herself.

He killed the wrong kid, he should have taken out that fat little *beep* and his curly friend.

reply

I guess he just killed the one who got it all started in the first place and letting the justice do its job would be kind of waiting and getting just more frustrated!

reply

The dad killed the right kid. Jose was the perpetrator of Alejandra's ills. Yes Manuel and Javier/Fatty seemed the worst but they were his foot soldiers. Jose continued to pester her and try for private conversations that he must have known made things worse for her. Jose was the sort of character who would get away with everything in life; we see this when he's confronted by the father in front of his parents and the head teacher. He didn't answer questions about his behaviour but sidelined them with remarks about the father (she wouldn't tell you) and others.

Should have gotten the whole story from him, and made a human centipede, girls at the rear.

reply

i'm not sure he wanted to hear the whole story just yet. remember? he just lost his wife before that. i think i would have done the same: make that prick drown (one of the worst ways to die), then wait for the investigation's outcome and do the same with the rest. at least i'd have a short term goal for my life, because after such a tragedy, i wouldn't have a future anyway, so why not punish the bullies? (just for the greater good, so in the future others could learn from history)

reply

Exactly what the father did. I kept hoping the father wasn't just scaring him. It would be great to do that to all of them but he got the guy that started it.
I just wish he was reunited with his daughter at the end.

It’s really complicated in Mexico to get any sort of actual redemption just by following the judicial system. I think I would play it safe for a while but I would definitely have done something similar as the dad did, albeit a bit more low-key, making sure to clean my tracks (I think the people at the truck from which the kid was taken could’ve seen that it was the dad). But I wouldn’t let it go unpunished, especially if it’s my daughter.
