Jelena can date the player but Asha can't?

Maybe this has been answered before but I am a little lost as to why it was made a big deal about Asha and Derek being a couple but not Jelena? The rule is the players and dancers can not date each other, yet Jelena has dated two of the players and didn't have to do a press conference or PR to stay on the team. When the show first aired they didn't give much background on Jelena and Terrence so for all we know they were dating before either made it to the Devil's. But now she is/was dating Zero and she didn't have to do a PR stunt or anything like Asha and Derrick.
