Good Accurate Review I Found- Any Review is Hard to Find

Tomatoes has nothing
Of course Ebert.com has nothing on it
All Movie Guide has nothing

This one is pretty good and accurate- Thoughts After Reading it? I Agree with the points he makes in the review.

Disappointed beyond belief. I didnt watch the whole movie, but watching her dance for 20 mins put me to sleep.

if you didn't watch the whole movie- you can't complain about it IMO- sorry
and if you mean dancing buy the pool- she was sexy in that scene - not sure how you could fall asleep

I disagree. If someone stopped watching a movie because it was so bad, then they have every right to judge it. If someone says that it gets better in the last hour or 30 minutes, then that still means the rest of the movie was bad.

If someone decides to not finish a entire television show because most of the episodes that he/she watched were bad, does that mean said person cannot judge the show? Of course not. What a silly thing to say.

AGENT:-that's like reading chapter 1 of a book and stopping and judging it- not silly at all- first 20 minutes of a film might be something called "pacing" or "set up" then it picks up and could become a "masterpiece" how would you know if you didn't watch the entire thing? I think of many movies I didn't like at first but stayed with them and the payoff/reward was worth sticking it out. It is just odd to me that someone can say a move is "disappointing" when they watched 20 minutes of an hour and 45 minute movie- any movie not just LOT- that's all I'm saying

But that's not the same thing. This is a relatively short film, so watching 20-30 minutes of it is not the same equivalent of reading only one chapter of a book.

You don't have to watch a whole movie to find it to be disappointing. And besides, the main issue here is that this is a bad movie.

I understand your point- but I respectfully disagree- this was an OK movie- thus the 6.3- he** I have it a 5.0- but would have went 5.5 5.75 if that was possible. This film is a one off- look at some of the user reviews- this is a special brand of horror- you either like it or hate it-I get that- I respect that your opinion is "this is a bad movie" but that doesn't make it a bad movie-that's simply your opinion- mine that it is an "ok" movie isn't necessarily correct either- it's my opinion- that's what makes film so great- it sparks/invokes conversation- :-)

Hey man :)

There you go, 43 Review links there, and some more online. Main reviews are from Bloody Disgusting, Dread Central, Fearnet, AICN and Horror Homework etc among many others.

We've been really fortunate with our reviews getting overwhelmingly positive praise from review websites and even some awards (Best Actress for Lexy/Best Film) at the Bram Stoker International Film Festival?

Why you might ask? Well, hehe... for horror fans that are looking for an arty/supernatural drama with a vintage throwback feel it pretty much ticks there boxes. If you like The Haunting... The Innocents or The Wicker Man you'll tend to love Lord of Tears.

Doesn't mean it doesn't have some haters too (but in terms of mainstream reviews pretty much zilcho luckily.) Those that dislike LoT imo tend to have watched Lord of Tears expecting something more like a slasher... or a conventional mainstream horror movie etc. Many reviews even warn fans over what to expect - trying to help deter those likely to dislike this type of film.

So imo it's a cup of tea with a unique taste beloved with those who have an affectionate to vintage Gothic drama and pretty detestable to those who don't.

I might finish, but i never heard of someone checking themselves into their own estate? the film seemed really slow, and tried to take on a vintage gothic drama, but did so poorly IMO. I feel like from what i've seen, the film was thrown together pretty quick. I love indie films, just dont think this is my cup or tea.

The dance was way too long, but it was mirrored near the end in a creepy way. So it had a point, eventually.

Sorry but this wasn't an OK movie, how did you watch the terrible acting for so long???

reply

I agree with Agent and the other guy. If someone decides to turn off a movie early based on technical aspects, then I can understand. I've turned off movies within 20 minutes because I didn't care for the sound quality, editing, acting, music, cinematography, etc. I think in a case like that it's okay to stop watching the movie.

There are cases where I turned off early because of the story aspect. deltsdog, you've never watched a movie where you had a strong desire to turn it off early but didn't and later regretted your decision? I have. I don't like most arthouse movies: gloomy faced characters staring into the distance; long silent scenes where the characters do nothing or mundane tasks; shots held on nothing interesting for far too long; and other typical arthouse elements bore me. I can usually tell within the first one-third if I'm going to hate an arthouse movie because they all have the same elements I hate and show those elements quick.

Sometimes that's the way it is. You watch a movie, and it has elements from other movies you hated and you immediately know that you're going to dislike the movie. Sure, turning off the movie early may not seem like you're qualified to rate it. But you just know that you'd hate it anyway if you watched it the whole way through. Actually, you'd probably hate it more because you watched a movie you knew you were going to hate when you were 30 minutes in.

davanna- all well said and valid points- and yes your are right- I have watched movies to the end I wish I wouldn't have - but I guess I am weird- I simply do no stop watching movies, I stick it out- I really can't tell you if I have ever stopped watching something I started- I just don't think it is an accurate review/rating of someone's work if you don't finish it but I understand your points. In this case, this was a independent film, from a director trying to make it, and someone gives the movie a bad "star" rating but only watches 20 minutes of an hour and 45 minute film? I simply don't think that's a fair assessment of someone's work. Just my opinion- but yes I understand what your saying, you know you might not like something right away and lots of people bag it- I get that(so don't rate it lol). I always stick it out, so I can accurately and fairly give my "star" rating -on this site and on All Movie Guide. Thanks for you thoughts, all valid points.

I liked the film, but I do agree that the dance scenes could have been shorter. They're effective at first, but they go on a little too long- especially the second one.
