No joke, worst movie I've ever seen.

I HATED THIS MOVIE. HATED, HATED, HATED IT (TO QUOTE ROGER EBERT). IT MAKES NO SENSE, THE PLOT IS BANANAS, IT'S BORING AF, AND IM SERIOUSLY PISSED THAT I PAID LIKE $5.99 TO WATCH IT ON DEMAND. I WATCHED IT BECAUSE I AM (WELL, USED TO BE) A GOSLING FAN, BUT I SHOULDVE KNOWN IT WOULD SUCK BECAUSE THE ROTTEN TOMATOES SCORE WAS 27%, AND I READ THAT IT GOT BOOED AT THE CANNES FILM FESTIVAL. BUT I FIGURED I'D GIVE IT A CHANCE. STUPID ME. IT HONESTLY SUCKS NUTS. THAT SHOULD BE THE TAGLINE FOR THE MOVIE.

I have to agree. This movie really blows.

It had effective atmosphere regarding the display of a town that was all but dead. The lead performances, while not amazing, were fairly believable and natural. Gosling showed a decent sense of directing. I think with some growth, he could make a very good film. I think he could make a good horror/fantasy.

stop screaming.

maybe you haven't watched many movies..? because even if lost river isn't your cup of tea, it should not be *the* worst movie you've ever watched.

You people always Dramatise that someyhing you dont like is the worst ever.
I bet you havent seen a lot of Movies let alone a broad diversity kind of films.
I can top your so called "Worst Movie" experience: Troll 2, Deadfall, Sharknado Saga, Everything Asylum Films produces like for example Alien vs Hunter, Titanic 2, Transmorphers etc, and so on

reply

It wasn't good but I have seen worse. Like the stuff Isabella Rossellini does. Take a look at The Saddest Music in the World or her TV series Green Porno.

I don't know everything. Neither does anyone else

LMAO! Yeah, I used to adore her in her early years, but she has definitely gotten... odd...

As to this film, it was really bad, but no, I won't list it as the worst I've ever seen as I've seen worse before and I'm sure I'll see worse again.

Visually this movie reminded me of The Last Minute. A truly bizarre film that I never could understand the point of. I only tried to watch it because it had my favorite actor in it, but not even he could really save the film from horrendousness.

I guess I just don't and never will understand the point of movies like this.

Titanic 2 actually had us laughing our butts off! Especially the scene when they deploy the rescue vessel - you'd swear it was filmed with a rubber toy in a bathtub....

Agreed. It was just awful from beginning until I couldn't stand it any longer. Too dark, and there was no continuity, just a jumbled mess. Wikipedia calls it a fantasy-neo-noir film, because there's no way to describe it. I hated it from the minute I turned it on. Rotten tomatoes is up to 30% but that just means 3 in 10 viewers are "deep thinkers" or into neo-noir. I doubt that anyone will be axing Gosling to direct ever again.
By the way, I just saw him for the first time in Gangster Squad last night and he had annoying habit of closing his Zippo lighter that it made me unlike his performance in that movie.

Considering your likely age of 21 according to your handle, you haven't seen that many films. Someone who judges films by Rotten Tomatoes has little enough life experience, much less film viewing experience.

This is a film which requires attention to be paid and awareness of the mortgage bubble of some years back. It's not a film that can be viewed in a room full of people having conversation. That would divert necessary attention from its plot and make it impossible to comprehend the film. Is that what you did? Or did you drink alcohol and attempt to comprehend the story? Blaming the film for your own shortcomings is lame.

I don't have to see it to indubitably say its probably one of the worst.

reply

I'm a person who watched the film with full attention and understand the whole mortgage bubble issue he was trying to address. However, I still agree with the sentiment that this movie was awful. Terrible script, lacking in plot. Just because someone doesn't like it doesn't mean they can't comprehend what it was about or didnt pay attention.
They just understand that this movie was lacking in all of the important elements to make a movie good.

Gosling should stick to his day job.
