Pissed me off when... *(spoilers)*

When the grandma straight up watched that dude burn her house down.

NOW here is really the part that pisses me off, not so much that she watched him do it and wen't with the house. that actually KINDA made sense, she lost her love, felt like a shell ETC whatever.

but for her not to yell up to her granddaughter just... dude WTF.

also it would have made more sense IMO to have her yell out when he brought the statue head back out of the water because of the "curse" being lifted. (and i realize it's like a metaphor/ or symbolism... or or... ugh,,, artsy whatever. i get it)

It would have made more sense.

dude just to think about a higher family member not trying to keep younger ones safe is disgusting to me. she needed to suck up her drama queen act for a minute and just *beep* yell for her grandaughter to get to safety.

Character just made me cringe hard for some reason. like she was supposed to have this sympathetic vibe about her but I just thought she was a POS.

I think your reaction is perfectly understandable, I didn't feel anger though I felt the grandmother character just wasn't alive anymore. To me it felt like she was a vegetable the entire film where her life ended with her old home being flooded and her forced to abandon her house. In this film there are a lot of paralels (spelling? sorry not english) with people's lives and their houses.

Billy couldn't leave her house despite the state it was in and the town being with the curse of being owned by a monster. Houses burning when certain character's lives get destroyed. The main character destroying a school.

I think the grandmother just wasn't alive anymore metaphorically speaking even without the curse she would still be like that. So when the new house burned and she died it felt natural she disappeared with the flames. Rat also didn't really have a home, all she did was take care of Nick and her grandmother that was her home... once the two died she was left without a life and the house burned to the ground, and she was left pretty much without a home. That's most of what she did she lived her life mostly by helping others and taking care of them.

Billy's house is also about to be taken down as their lives are becoming closer to death, the main character being on the run from the Monster and Billy being closer to death everynight at her job. Once the two free themselves from it they reunite at their house all together.

The grandmother had been catatonic since her husband died years before. It's a mental condition that's sometimes irreversible.

It was specified by her granddaughter in the dialogue. Did you miss it? Some people remain catatonic for decades until they die.

She'd lost her own river, the purpose for living. She had no reason to yell. It's symbolism pal.

I actually agree with OP. IN he sense I totally would have loved if she had screamed just as he pulls the piece from the reservoir and Face sets the house on fire. One scream with a close-up of the face like some with Bully would have been great and then she returns to her totally catatonic state. I get what the others are saying but I think OPs ideas are really awesome
