I just saw this and Only God Forgives and even though I'm ambivalent about both I loved the atmosphere and the way they were filmed. Kind of gritty, spooky and surreal.
Any movies that are similar to these in that respect? Preferably something that came out within the last 10-15 years. I don't mind if they're not in English.

It seemed to me that gosling was pretty heavily influenced by films he has recently been in and the directors behind them. This film seemed influenced by Drive and Only God Forgives (Refn) as well as The Place Beyond the Pines and Blue Valentine (Cianfrance). There are similarities in the look and the feel of all of the films, as well as some of the same actors being involved.
shareI completely agree greenpen. That was one of my first thoughts. Gosling was influenced a lot by the films he's been in. I couldn't help but think of how much it seemed like A Place Beyond the Pines. Except that PBTP actually had a much better script with interesting dialogue in it, better plot, coherence, etc. far superior than this crapfest of a movie.
Pretty much every David Lynch movie.
