I think they forgot Live + Let Die...

When they start talking about Roger Moore taking over the role, they show clips of Live and Let Die but never talk about it... They go right into talking about 'The Man with the Golden Gun' and make it seem like it was his first Bond movie.. At one point they even say "In the film business it can be one strike and you're out... The Man with the Golden Gun was regrettable but if the next one had gone the same way there could have been a big problem" inferring that Golden Gun was the first and the next one (The Spy Who Loved Me) was the second Moore film.

They mention every Bond movie by name but never said the title "Live & Let Die"...I found it kind of weird..

100% Agreed. They even forgot to mention the Wings title song! There might be a reason, just like the movie Runaways forgot to mention Lita Ford.

Some things swept under the rug are better just kept under the rug.

I do agree with you arnomation, in fact, even though I enjoyed the documentary, I felt that it was very unbalanced and unfair in its attention to detail overall with respect to all of the Bond films. Too much time spent on Connery, not enough on all that Moore accomplished, nor the other Bond gents since.

There was a tremendous amount of good film (and music for that matter), such as "Live and Let Die",like you mentioned that came out of all of the Bond films but most were ignored - an unfortunate mistake on the part of the creators of this documentary, (furthermore considering the fact that many of the Bond songs themselves have become classics). It could have potentially been a documentary of much higher quality, especially on this 50 year anniversary - so in summary, it is a shame...

They had to skim over a lot of the history - I don't think QoS got a mention either (not that it was any good, but it's part of the story).

For me, Connery will always BE Bond, so I didn't mind all that time being spent on him, but the second half then seemed rushed trying to fit everyone in. Perhaps they could have made a Special Edition for the DVD with an extra 30 minutes?

Verily I say unto thee...QoS didn't get a mention because its a disgrace to the franchise and an insult to cinema itself. There are the briefest of yawn-inducing clips from this monstrosity but not enough to spoil this otherwise quite superb documentary.

How come you don't like Quantum?

Hope you have found your passion in life~

reply

Probably because it's unwatchable due to the worst editing known to man.

reply

I don't think it's deliberate, just a title that got lost in the editing. I don't remember Moonraker, A View to a Kill or Quantum of Solace being singled out either. They had that whole segment about George Lazenby but I don't think anyone ever even said the words 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service.' Not even when the doco went on to explain the backstory of that novel/film with Fleming's relationship with a naval dispatch officer who was killed in the war by shrapnel, somehow the title just never came up even though that's what they were all discussing.

reply

They displayed the title of OHMSS at some point and had Timothy Dalton taking a shot at Moonraker though I'm not sure they ever mentioned it by name.

Moore accomplished nothing except to reduce the series to lowbrow entertainment that appealed to the masses. It certainly started before him (in Diamonds Are Forever), but Moore's portrayal was pure garbage. He was never a threatening presence and was not convincing as someone who would make the ladies swoon. His movies were just placeholders until a better acute came along.

reply

That should be "actor", not "acute".
