Anyone else hated/disliked this movie?

I wrote a review about how this movie is GROSSLY overrated, does anyone else agree or disagree?

If you disagree with me, please read my review and please try to convince on how this movie is better than I think.

I didn't hate or really dislike it, but it is horribly overrated.

Many, many "foreign" (non-English-language) movies get far more credit than they deserve just because they're not Hollywood. I don't know if it's a pretentiousness thing, self-importance or what, but I think of plenty of average/bad movies that get absurd amounts of critical praise. Sometimes it's the setting or message of the movie which is "important," but it doesn't make a movie good.

This movie, High Tension, Come and See, The Host, The Lives of Others, Life is Beautiful, Crouching Tiger and the Good, the Bad, the Weird all come to mind.

Agreed.

Critic reviews seem to be way out in left field, very overrated. But I think the average-Joe rating is slowly starting to come back inline. I have a feeling it will eventually drop below 7 on IMDb.

I'm not going to try and convince you of anything because your mind is clearly made up.

But I generally hate kids in movies, they're always either smart-ass whimsical quippers like Chloe Grace Moretz in 500 Days Of Summer or borderline idiots who are only there as an object to facilitate a plot. The kids in this were far more realistic and therefore relatable, and it's completely understated and unsentimental. It wasn't about overcoming adversity or escaping a troubled home life, it was just as it is - kids screwing around. For what it's worth, I also thought it was very funny at times. The little one with the mohawk was consistently funny throughout.

It also didn't feel smug or moralizing in any way whatsoever. It was remarkably unpretentious, as well as being warm and good-spirited. I liked that a lot, especially considering how rare it is lately (both in European and American cinema). I honestly don't understand any of the criticisms I've read at all, which is odd because I can usually at least see where they're coming from even if I disagree.

I bet you're not old enough yet. This movie is about 13 year olds, but it's not so much made for 13 year olds.
