Question about the early part of the movie *SPOILERS*

I think this might be more of an opinion question. What (I guess whom, really) do you guys think the boyfriend saw right before the crash? They were still alive at the time, but it certainly looked like he saw The Hunter.

If it was The Hunter, it seems to me that the point in showing him would have been to deceive us out of anticipating the ending. I realize that another interpretation would have been that the boyfriend was seeing Death/Jesus Christ/Whomever You Interpret just before he died as a spiritual foreshadowing, but to me that didn't seem to be in line with the tone of the movie. I feel like they were just trying to dupe us.

That second paragraph is my opinion, feel free to flame on. I'm more curious to hear what you guys think he saw.

I think he saw the Hunter. The Hunter knew they were going to die and was waiting to escort them to Heaven or wherever. Of course, he (Hunter) also kind of caused their death by distracting Mike, which is kind of cheating if you ask me.

On the other hand, there was a pretty good chance they would have died anyway because Mike was an idiot who did just about everything wrong. Don't go off in the wilderness unless you're an experienced outdoorsman. Don't go off in the wilderness without telling someone exactly where you're going and when you'll be back. Don't choose a remote wilderness for your first experience driving a snowmobile. People die or go missing in the North American wilderness all the time, and these two seemed destined to join their number with or without help from Death himself.

The hunter being glimpsed by Mike in the woods (or whomever it was that he saw) was the part that really didn't ring true with me at the end of the movie when they revealed what was going on the whole time....

Overall this was a so-so film, at least to me....I think the scriptwriter and director could have gone further to throw in elements of confusion for the two of them.......like when they reveal that the bodies were found, and the tent was found, why not show Emma returning to the tent and finding it gone.....the big bloody spot on the ground near the snowmobile wreck was interesting because that was (if I watched correctly) where Mike's body was....and once he had accepted his death and crossed over then Emma was able to see the bloody spot where he died.....interesting...and they could have done more of that.....
