Weak Useless Men Saved By Skilled Powerful Woman

AGAIN.

(Rolls eyes)

Lol, they actually did it twice, in the contemporary story and in the historical scenes where the clever and wise Asa is the only one that escapes.

Uhm and how many times have you seen it happen the other way around?

MRA's. The ultimate in de-penised whinery.

That might be a valid complaint for some of the stupider movies where the 'ninja master' tiny female overpowers/kicks the butt of the much larger 'bad' male (Scooby Doo, Charlie's Angels, etc) but it really isn't true for this one. The actions in the movie make sense. Elisabeth is a hands-on person who lives out of her suitcase; Sigurd is an academic. Elisabeth isn't an unrealistic character. She doesn't have superhuman strength (for her gender) and she is hardly the only person to save the group.

Here's a list of all the 'saves' (spoilers, obviously):
Elisabeth climbed up a rope and saved them from being trapped.
Sigurd saves her and the kids when they are caught in the metal box.
Elisabeth fired the gun to make the zip line. (Not really a save)
Elisabeth saves Sigurd on the zip line.
Allan saved Sigurd and Elisabeth by shooting the monster.
Allan gets the door to the shelter open, with Sigurd's help.
Sigurd saves everyone by returning the baby. (while Elisabeth is unconscious)

The only female who saves anyone is Elisabeth. Asa, in the historical scenes, SAVES NO ONE. She runs away. The little girl SAVES NO ONE (neither does the little boy for that matter).

There's nothing wrong with or even 'feminist' about this movie. No dumb 'girl power' lines or anything of the sort. It's just a fun adventure that has a capable/realistic, but not magical or ridiculous, female lead.

I wrote this response in the hopes that no one avoids seeing it based on the original post. It's a fun film. Recommended.

" Weak Useless Men Saved By Skilled Powerful Woman"

Yes, and other American movie formulas.

The pouty teenage b!tch etc.

If that was the only thing you saw in it, then you are just extremely stupid.

Those men were archeologists, pencil pushers, the woman was a person who had been living on her own, on the road, for a long time.

It is established very early in the movie that she is tough and knows how to handle herself while her companions are clearly out of their element.

Was that an attempt at a serious comment about the film, or just the chance to have a sexist whine?

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

And?

Asa is wise to the fact that battles are typically pointless and are way too deadly; she ran because she was smart.

Elizabeth was used to that sort of physical hardship; Sigurd was a scholar.

If I gave a *beep* what loose acquaintances or strangers thought about me, I'd have wilted long ago.
