Good locations and scenery

The movie was well-enough Sunday afternoon fun (I described it as a really good SciFi channel movie), but the locations and scenery were excellent. The sweeping views of Finnmark's fjords were gorgeous, and the bunker, abandoned vehicles, and other derelict war memories were very cool.

Agreed. The scenery is breathtakingly outstanding.

Yes, strength of this movie is that is manages to combine beautiful Norwegian scenery, some simple Nordic mythology and Cold War relics into a family friendly Hollywood package. Of course, some elements of this movie are terribly cliched (a young single father, two kids, wife tragically dead). And the monster scenes are probably going to disappoint die hard Kaiju-fans. But nobody really expects this movie two break any significant new ground. It's good that Norwegian movie industry is able to use Norway's nature and history in this manner. The movie Trollhunter (2010) is another recent example.
