Sorry, but your incredible ego is not justified by your appearance or your intelligence. You made this standard but basically acceptable film almost unwatchable due to your obnoxious personality. I fast-forwarded through every one of your appearances. Despite your over-confidence in yourself, your hippie-dippie observations are worthless.
Good point, but she had multiple appearances throughout the film. I endured the first few, but it quickly became apparent that she had nothing to offer. You only need to stick your hand in the fire once to know it burns: stupid is stupid.
Those people had to agree to be interviewed and a lot of them had much more demanding jobs than she did. Maybe the others at the station didn't want to be interviewed. They had the guy from Washington on a lot and the Jewish guy too. They probably couldn't take too much time with say, the cook, because he was constantly busy cooking for several hundred people. Maybe a lot of them just wanted to say a few words and not be interviewed anymore. No one knows what went on there and being ugly about it doesn't shoe very much class. Seeing her a lot didn't bother me in the least and I think it's kind of knit picky to point this out.
I agree she wasn't the greatest character, but none of them were in my opinion. Yes, she was annoying, but bearable. There were more things that nagged me, like how and where did they go to the toilet? How often and what they ate? Did they have holidays or days off? Were they allowed to drink alcohol after working hours or just on special occasions? Could they buy alcohol from the shop which was shown just in a glimpse?...
It's true: the subject matter offered a lot of opportunities to show things of interest to people who likely will never live/visit there or get to experience them. I know the guy is a time-lapse photog, and that's cool, but overall I agree with you - it seems like a wasted opportunity.
she seems to me (I am watching it now) that she is on a reality show and she is in the "confession room" of the show. While she is not talking smack about other people I get the impression (and this could just be me) that the documentary is more about her and not the general experience of living in Antarctica.
But the blame really should be put on the filmmakers/editors themselves. They obviously thought they had a person with a lot of interesting things to say about life in Antarctica. I agree with what someone else said - not everyone participated in the documentary/filming, so they worked with what they had.
I felt her screen time should have been limited as well, but I also thought the ONE fireman they interviewed should have been trimmed also. It seemed as if they focused on him a LOT more. Yes, he was good looking - but there wasn't one other person in the "firehouse" that felt like talking? That's sort of surprising, considering there is nothing to do in Antarctica during the winter!
I was wondering about the one comment that was made by the guy at the wedding: About women being in Antarcica -> The odds are good, but the goods are odd.. As hilarious as that is, I'm beginning to agree with him. Of course I've never been there, but even at the new years band gathering there were a couple attractive women there in the crowd but you get a sense that most women have to be odd to want to escape civilization to go there. Like the asian lady. The odd toothed chunky asian lady.. I'm sure she means well, but she is not an exciting person to me. Maybe that's why she ran away to Antarctica.
What was annoying about her? I didn't even find her remotely annoying.
And the fireman guy (Dave) wasn't the only one from the firehouse that was interviewed. I seemed to recall there was a woman in the firehouse and she was shown a couple of times. She was mainly working in the comms room or whatever. I think she was higher up than the other guys.
