Wanted to punch all the guys in the face

Uber hipsters everywhere. Never saw a group of "guys" that needed such a swift punch and a shave. Completely cardboard characters, who if they didn't have beards, I would have trouble believing they weren't teenage girls. Movie was watchable though thanks to Deniro and Anne Hathaway, though it's still a fairy tale. End of rant. Thanks!

There were no hipsters portrayed in this movie. You don't know what the term means.

The guys could have been way, way worse. Like the other poster said, the "hipster" type wasn't really played to-- and even if you thought it was, at least they weren't pretentious. Just guys in their 20's being goofy.

reply

More like Hollywood's idea of nerds rather than hipsters, whatever that word is supposed to mean.

You should see Damsels in Distress where a girl's club makes it their mission to cure a college full of dopy males into normal men.

I don't know everything. Neither does anyone else

They were def going for the somewhat socially dysfunctional nerd vibe with those guys. The biggest tip off is that a hipster would have his finger on the pulse of the latest fashion - he wouldn't have trouble picking out a shirt (the 'boyfriend' shirt gag).

reply

Aww, I liked the younger guys in this. Except for Anne Hathaway's beardy, obnoxious 'hipster' (sorry if the term offends) of a husband.

reply

The term "hipster" is not offensive to those who aren't hipsters. However, it should be applied to the right group. There was nothing hipster about the husband. He wasn't ironically detached, wearing ironic clothing or hairstyle or said anything that would suggest hipsterism.

He's more akin to a what we up here in the NW would call "a granola". These are a version of yuppie that adds in environmental and social awareness. They are in many ways the opposite of a hipster.

reply

I get what you're saying, but the word hipster is something that lately defies definition. But in the NE, his beard and clothing would mark him as, at the very least, a hipster-wannabe.

This is a hipster: http://bcncoolhunter.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/moda-hipster-barba.jpg

For balance, here's a female: http://previews.123rf.com/images/brickrena/brickrena1401/brickrena140100012/24984003-Studio-Portrait-of-Trendy-Hipster-Girl-in-Funny-Winter-Hat-Stock-Photo.jpg

Neither resembles any of the characters in this movie.

Just because a lot of people are misusing the term doesn't mean it's definition should be changed.

reply

Yeah....the term "hipster" wouldn't fit the dudes in this movie but "effeminate male metrosexuals" would pretty much nail it.

reply

Metrosexuals don't have scraggly beards. Another misused term.

reply

I'll take your word for it since I'm sure you speak from experience and are immersed in that world...lol.

reply

The world of reality. Yes, I am.

reply

Reality is just perception. I perceive you to be an idiot. Does that make it reality?

reply

No
